Pack 5 contains issues/stages 17 - 20

Stage 17 contains – Lower skin, Outer edging strip, Engine cover, Inner edging strip, 4 screws

Upper starboard wing.
Assembling the wing.

Take the wing assembly together with the engine cover and two edging strips. Starting with the outer edging strip, there are three pins on the underside that fit into the matching holes on the underside of the recess as shown. Press firmly into place. Now take the inner edging strip, this also presses into three fixing holes.

Now take the engine cover which has four pins on the back that correspond to the mounting holes on the power input unit. Press this cover into place as shown. Take the completed laser cannon from stage 4, the battery box, the skin of the wing and three of the screws supplied with this issue. Feed the plug on the end of the wire leading from the laser cannon through the hole near the wingtip, feeding it down through the hole and line up five mounting lugs and locating pins on the cannon with the matching holes near the wingtip. Press the pins firmly into the holes and while holding into place, turn the assembly over and secure it with the XW02 screws. Plug the lead into the socket on the wire located next to the hole in the wing. Press the plug and socket into the channel in the wing and coil the surplus wiring neatly beside it as shown.

To test that the connection is working, check the plugs at the other end of the wing and connect them to the battery box. One is for the engine light, the other is for the laser canon.

Once tested, you can now fit the lower skin, which is held in place by eight locating pins that fit into the wing frames. Press the panel into position so it fits flush as shown.

This stage is now complete. Store any remaining parts in a stage labelled bag.

Stage 19 contains – Laser Cannon housing (outer half), Laser cannon side tubes, Laser cannon tube, Laser cannon jacket, Laser cannon rear end cap, Laser cannon side detail, Laser cannon shoulder.

Making the cannon.

Start by taking the three parts of the cannon barrel provided. Push the thicker end of the shoulder firmly into the jacket, making sure that the shoulder is seated all the way in. Fit the laser cannon tube over the thinner end of the shoulder, pushing it firmly in place.
Take the laser cannon housing, side tubes and detail. Align the tab in the side detail with the matching slot in the side tubes, making sure the part is the correct way around, and press the detail firmly into the slot.
Align the tab and pins in the side tubes with the matching holes in the laser cannon housing and press firmly into place.

This stage is now complete. Store any remaining parts in a stage labelled bag.

Issue/Stage 20 contains – Rear laser generator inner & outer halves, Rear laser generator, Rear generator union, Forward laser generator inner & outer halves, Laser generator LED, Forward generator end cap, Laser cannon suppressor mount halves, Laser cannon flashback suppressor, Laser cannon emitter, Laser cannon tip, Laser cannon housing (Inner half), Laser cannon front end cap, Fibre optic.

Making the cannon

Take the seven parts of the laser generator casing, plus the LED. Press the halves of the forward generator body together with the LED wire running through the holes at each end, ensuring the pin and socket that join the halves don’t trap the wire.
Fit the LED into the small hole in the end of the forward generator end cap, gently pushing the LED into the hole so its shoulder sits on the rim and its tip protrudes from the end cap.
Pull the wire back through the generator body and push the end cap into it.
Feed the central union over the other end of the wire, noting the projecting lug, which only allows it to fit in one position. Push the union into the generator body.

Feed the wire into the groove and take the end cap, which also has a slot to match an internal lug in the central union, so you can fit the two halves together firmly. Align the slot in the thick end of the rear generator body with the lug in the end cap and push the cap into place.
Now take the completed generator, both halves of its housing, the two end caps and the fibre optic.

Expert Tip
As the light source is housed in the laser generator, you may notice a slight glow from this area when the cannon ‘fires’. If you prefer to conceal this effect, apply a coat of matt-black modelling paint. Paint the whole of the areas shown and allow both halves of the housing to dry before reassembling them.

Align the laser generator with the half of the cannon housing supplied this time and fit the two pins into the sockets in the housing. Fit the fibre optic into the notches in the housing making sure the tip is in contact with the LED.
Fit the other half of the generator housing, ensuring that the LED wire comes out through the notch in the side of the housing. Fit the rear end cap and align it with the end of the housing.

Slip the front-end cap over the fibre optic. The end of the housing and the hole in the front cap are “D” shaped and will only fit one way. Ensure that the two side tubes will fit into the holes as indicated. Press the end cap firmly into place and that the tubes are locked into the holes.

Take the completed laser generator housing together with the barrel assembly from stage/issue 19 and all the remaining parts supplied this time.
Feed the fibre optic through the barrel assembly so you can fit the barrel onto the front cap, pushing the barrel all the way home.
Fit half the suppressor mount over the flanged end of the laser cannon emitter and match up the pins and sockets on the two halves and press firmly together. Feed the fibre optic cable into the suppressor mount and through the laser cannon emitter. Push the suppressor mount onto the barrel. Fit the suppressor over the emitter lining up the lug with the notch in the mount. Press the clear tip into the end of the emitter.

This issue/stage is now complete. Store any remaining parts in a stage labelled bag.
