Another great update Alan.

I have found that when the rigging starts to get that complicated it pays to roll up your sleeves and remove your watch before something hooks where you don't want it.

The Bounty rigging made me reconsider ship modelling, swore I wouldn't do another one, and then bought the full kit of Victory but not got to the rigging yet. Haven't done a diary because I think that there are enough Victory diaries already.

Alec

You're spot on Alec. I normally wear short sleeves and remove all jewelry before working on any rigging. Had too many disasters in the past to count....Drool Drool

As for a Victory diary, doesn't matter how many build diaries there are for this kit, every build is different as is every diary. Am sure the members would still give you their full support on any diary you decide to create.....

Alan

Stage 138 Contents: Decorations and Barrels

Retrieve decorations C175, C176 and C177 from this stage, remove all flash and burrs and apply a coat of primer. Paint the decorations by following the paint guide contained within the instructions.

Take decoration C175 and glue it at the front of the stem, between the side walls. Glue decoration C176 to the port side of the C175 decoration and C177 to the starboard side. Retrieve the six figurines you prepared earlier and glue them into position. The instructions give suggested places to place them but you can fit them wherever you wish.

Retrieve the completed gun port lids from stage 99 and the small eyebolts supplied in stage 132. Make a small hole in the outside of the lid with a 0.5mm drill bit, do not drill all the way through. Cut the shank of the eyebolt so that it measures about 1mm in length then glue the shortened eyebolt into the hole in the lid. Choose a gun port to fit the first lid to. Make a 2mm hole in the gun port inside and a 1mm hole aligned above it. (I chose to do the first four gun ports on the port bow area).

Cut a length of natural thread and glue it into the 1mm hole you made above the gun port. Glue one of the dummy cannons prepared in stage 100 into the 2mm hole you made in the centre of the gun ports. Secure the lid to the hull by applying drops of glue to the hinges. Then tie the natural thread to the eyebolts in the gun port lid and seal with glue. When dry, cut off the excess. Repeat the process for the first four gun ports on the starboard side.

Glue two 10mm lengths of 2x5mm wooden strips together. Then drill a 4mm hole through the centre of them. Glue the square to the bow, 15mm away from the stem, resting on the strake. When the piece has dried, extend the hole through the hull. Paint or stain the piece to match the rest of the hull.

Now retrieve the anchor assembled in stage 3. Tie a double block from stage 127 to the ring of the anchor with black thread. To create the anchor cable, cut some of the thick brown thread and pass it through the anchor ring, doubling it back on itself. Then use some natural thread to bind it together. Tie a length of natural thread to the cathead, pass the other end down through the anchor block, back up through the inner hole in the cathead, down through the second hole in the block and finally up and through the second hole in the cathead, tying it off to the cleat on the forward rail.

Tie a line of natural thread to the rail support, down round the anchor, back up round the support and round the anchor again. Tie off to the same rail support ensuring the anchor is sitting in a horizontal position. Insert the free end of the anchor cable into the hawse hole and glue into place. Repeat the process to fit the second anchor from stage 59 to the starboard side.

Store any unused parts in a bag labelled with this stage number.

This build stage is now complete.

Stage 139 Contents: Buckets and Decorations

Take the two parts that make up decorations C181 and remove any burrs or flash from them. Then glue the two pieces together and apply a coat of primer. Repeat the process for decoration C180. Paint the decorations as outlined in the instructions. Glue the decorations to the bulwarks near the bow.

Take the decorations C178 and C179, remove any burrs or flash and apply a coat of primer. Paint the decorations as outlined in the instructions. Cut away about 3mm of the upper two strakes at the stern (on the port side). Smooth the cut edges and paint or stain them to match the rest of the hull. Glue decoration C178 into this space. Repeat the process on the starboard side with decoration C179.

Fit the two stern gun port lids following the same process as those fitted at the bow. Note, these gun ports do not contain dummy cannons. Now make two spears from two pieces of straight metal wire, 25mm in length. Paint the tips metallic and the rest brown to resemble wood. Glue the spears to the hands of the outer figures on the stern, with the wood end positioned between the feet and the metallic end pointing up.

In stage 140 contains the remaining dummy guns needed to complete the lower decks batteries. You can either fit those you have ready now or wait until next stage to fit them all at the same time. I chose to complete the gun ports on the port side.

Store any unused parts in a bag labelled with this stage number.

This build stage is now complete.
