Hi guys. Has anybody built pack 5 stage 48. Part 48.4 left hand cables when located in corresponding holes seems there are 2 tails left that go nowhere. Thought Pack 6 would shed some light on them but no. So where do they go? Any thoughts Andy.

They will probably be used at a later stage. Does your build look like it matches the pictures in the instructions?

Hi Graham, yes it looks same as in build but when box 6 parts get added the 2 cables disappear so not seen when chassis parts added. When the cable are first fitted it shows, by numbers, where each part goes but the 2 loose cables do not get numbered. Thought it would be used in box 6 but no. Confused,! Andy.

Hmmm. I'm not sure then Andy. I don't have pack 5 yet, it's due soon. Guess I'll see when it arrives.

Hi Graham, if you have time download pack 5. Stage 48 part number 48-4. Look at the cable assembly and you will see 1-9 listing for location, also you will see 2 strands of black rubber not used. I have pack 6 and assembled all parts and still have theses 2 pieces not connected anywhere. Baffled me. Hope you get yours soon and let me know if you can work out where they go. Maybe they need to be cut off being from manufacturing mounds.? Andy.

Hi Graham, have just worked out where the 2 cable pieces left out from the build 48-4 go. Looking at the chassis of a 1/18 model it looks as though they are to locate in the rear of the brake back plate of rear wheels being the cables for the brake shoe workings. Wish it was pointed out in the build at stage 48 because I have them trapped under metal chassis assembly and will have to undo screws and parts to release. Hope they show in box 7 of parts where to route them. Beware when you get box 5. Regards Andy.

Hi Andy,

I've only just completed that part so wasn't quite sure before. I see what you mean now, they do look loose but what you say makes sense.

Hi Graham, I’ve put the rear brake drums on and there is a hole in the back plate and the loose cables fit but with a lot of slack in cables so I’m hoping it will show where to route them at some point, although I’ve just finished box 7 and it’s now building the front of chassis. Andy.

Hi Andy,

I also couldn't work out from the instructions where these 2 loose cables were located. Looking closely at the photo's in the build guides didn't really help either. After reading your post it became clear, there were 2 spare holes in the rear brake backplates and 2 spare cables. After quite a bit of faffing about to release the cables that were unfortunately trapped under various parts, I managed to get what looked like a reasonable run to the rear brakes. The cables were a very loose fit in the backplates so a bit of superglue helped fix them in place. It would be nice if Deagostini could post a picture showing the correct cable run, before we get to far past the point of no return with the build, so that if I have guessed wrongly I can put things right.

Hi Jabber, yes this is a problem if later down the line Deag tell us to fit the 2 loose cables. They should have indicated what happens to them. I’ve even checked on YouTube as there is a guy listing his build and he is up to pack 74 with no mention of the 2 bits. I suppose if you have used a bit of glue and there is still plenty of play you will be able to re route them. I may just put a spot of glue on the tubes/axles to the brake drums and attach them that way. Don’t think they should hang loose. Andy.

Hi Andy,

I have found a picture of the underside of the T1 on the internet, unfortunately I cannot manage to copy it into this post.

However it shows the brake cables coming from the middle of the vehicle, joining the axle at a pair of brackets (1 each side) inside the rear drums on the front of the axle. Roughly equidistant from the for and aft brace bar and the rear drum.

Here is the link to the picture.

https://www.thesamba.com.../viewtopic.php?t=388059

It appears that I have my routing incorrect as my cables go below the axle.
I will have to make a couple of small brackets to fit them to the front of the axle

Cheers

Brian

Thanks Brian, I’ll look at my build to see how I can reroute the cables. Andy.

Just received box 8 of the Samba build. Nice to start seeing diecast body panels, both side doors, windows etc. Shame the assembly guide 8 is not ready to download yet. Andy.
