Hey everyone!

There's now a MOD set available for the Model Space T1 Samba 1:8 scale.

The "Day Tripper" Mod Pack for Model Space's T1 Samber Camper

The Volkswagen T1 Samba “Split Screen” van is inarguably the single most iconic car every made: Highly desirable, highly sought after, immortalised for its camper conversions the world over. But more than this, anyone who had ever owned one will know that the VW Camper is an experience. Model Space had brought us a much-loved scale model, but it hadn’t quite been the vehicle we’d known and loved, nor had it fully captured the essence of what it was to own a Samba … until now. Luxury Model Customs’ new “Day Tripper Mod Pack” 26-piece signature collection transforms your 1:8 scale model into the miniature replica it was meant to be, with the ‘must-have’ deluxe Mods your Samba deserves.

Each set contains all of the following;

2 x 1:8 scale miniaturised authentic Stainless Steel British numberplates with a genuine 1962 registration,
4 x Stainless Steel nuts and bolts for the numberplates,
1 x Screwdriver for numberplate assembly,
1 x Adjustable wrench for numberplate assembly,
1 x 1:8 scale miniaturised authentic 1962 “Guinness” tax disc that match the vehicle registration plus a Tax Disc holder,
1 x 1:8 scale restored and miniaturised authentic Daily Mirror newspaper issue from the 6th August 1962 (August as this was the most popular month to go on holiday … in a VW Camper),
1 x 1:8 scale (1:32) restored and miniaturised authentic Geographia Devon and Cornwall Map from 1962,
7 x 1:8 scale restored and miniaturised postcards from Devon and Cornwall circa 1962,
1 x 1:8 scale miniaturised paper bag for postcards,
3 x 1:8 scale miniaturised authentic bumper stickers from 1962 (GB, Kernow, Devon.)
2 x 1:8 scale miniaturised authentic AA badges from 1962,
2 x 1:8 scale miniaturised authentic RAC badges from 1962.

The set also includes;

5 x crystal display cases for each of the mod categories, mounted for presentation in concertina packaging with a silk ribbon tab,
1 x 16-page full colour installation/user guide with historic referencing of all included items,
1 x certificate of authenticity for this mod pack.

All beautifully packaged and presented as LMC’s mods have become known for.

One of the most glaring oversights with Model Space’s T1 Samba has now been corrected … the numberplates (license plates). Those provided by Model Space were completely the wrong shape and size, made from plastic with a sticker placed over the top. The Day Tripper Mod Pack not only replaces these with the right shape and size, but are made of 100% Stainless Steel, and contain a genuine vehicle registration from 1962. Included with the plates are appropriate nuts and bolts for fitting AND a set of quality tools to assemble them with. Replacing your old plates with these gives your Samba an instant makeover, turning a potentially expensive model into an incredibly convincing miniature replica.

To complement the numberplates we have included an actual Tax Disc (vehicle licence) at 1:8 scale, registered to the same numberplates and vehicle, issued by Kent County Council in June 1962, making your model ‘road legal’ from two months prior to the trip. The Tax Disc also comes with a Tax Disc holder to affix to your Samba’s windscreen.

To cement the Samba’s time period we also included the U.K.’s most popular newspaper in 1962; the Daily Mirror … fully restored from an original copy, then miniaturised to 1:8 scale. Every page is included, from articles on the death of Marilyn Monroe, to Max Mosley, the sports and TV listings pages … you can even make out the crossword. The paper was then printed at a high 1200dpi to preserve all details on genuine newspaper paper, so you’re getting as authentic a reproduction as can be.

To highlight how the British used their campers, we included a replica map of the West Country (Devon and Cornwall), originally made by Geographia in 1962. Every nuance of the map was captured and restored, then produced using the same materials and methods of the original, only at 1:8 scale. The tabs which hold the cover to the pages are only 1mm wide at 1:8 scale, yet we chose to duplicate this exactly, giving you a truly authentic miniature.

As a traveller during 1962 it was unlikely you wouldn’t pick up postcards on your way through your travels, so we included those too. Seven genuine postcards were selected from both Devon and Cornwall that were originally printed in 1962, which we then miniaturised for inclusion with the set, accompanied by a bespoke white paper bag (also at 1:8 scale). As well as the full-colour laminated front, we made sure the back of the postcards were not overlooked either, therefore if you grab a magnifying glass you will find the box for where you affix a stamp, as well as the address and message sections on the rear of each postcard.

Travellers would also choose to affix bumper stickers onto their vehicles, so we included those as well. In keeping with the West Country theme, you’ll find in your set; one GB decal, one Kernow (Cornwall) decal and one Devon decal, all at 1:8 scale. Yet travellers would also worry about the potential of breaking down during their trips … so we covered that too. You get to choose whether your Samba is covered by either AA or RAC membership with these high quality authentic breakdown cover badges from 1962 to display on your model.

Nothing in this set is contemporary and meticulous detail had been attributing towards making this a truly unique collection.

The “Day Tripper Mod Pack” signature collection is the ultimate way to commemorate our British heritage through the iconic Volkswagen, and will undoubtedly bring your model a lot of attention. Each inclusive item of this set has been created by VW enthusiasts over the course of four months, people that have a long history with this vehicle. Every nuance of this set is handcrafted and handmade using only the finest materials that are as close to the originals as possible. Many of the items were cut and trimmed using an exacto knife at as little as 1/4mm in places, as the precision required was beyond that of many machines commercially available. We wanted to give you more than just a mod set with this collection, we wanted to give you a work of art that brings your model to life. Only items that are completely flawless make it into retail packaging, so rest assured you will be receiving a high quality product.

The “Day Tripper Mod Pack” is the first in a line of mods made for Model Space’s T1 Samba Camper by Luxury Model Customs, and is sold exclusively through ModelModz.com (https://modelmodz.com/VW-T1-Samba-Camper-1-8-Scale-Mods-c34470488). Nice set but I would only want the number plates. Could they be available separately? Andy.
