As many of you who have been here for a while possibly know, I'm a bit of a Jaguar fanatic, particularly the E Type. I've built 2 lightweights so far using parts from the large 1/8 Revell kit and will soon be starting on a long-nose streamline car. Master bodywork moulds in prep at present. However, I've got a spare roadster tail end in my 'bits' box, as well as a lightweight bonnet with 4 lights that I never got round to using. A bit of Googling found a suitable car so I'm going to have a go at this one next as a bit of a 'filler' project between other things. roymattblack attached the following image(s):

Just a little update. This conversion of the Revell kit needs the front body parts to be taped in place, to get the correct location of the roadster tail. It also needs the interior floor to be heavily altered as the race cars don't have the same tunnel configuration. A bit of chopping and gluing done. The kit bonnet is only taped to get placement for the front scuttle. The bonnet part won't be used. roymattblack attached the following image(s):

I don't 'intend' going nuts on the detailing (we shall see) as it's just an 'in-between' build as I've got other projects on the back burner.
Yes, it will be red and with the same markings etc as the pictures.
I have a streamline long nose E Type in the works, as well as a full-detail XK120...

Thanks chaps. A bit more on the floor section. Race E Types have a very spartan interior and as such the transmission tunnel is usually just covered with an insulating fibreboard. I replicated it with surgical fabric tape painted matt black. Also, I added the strengthening ribs on the floor and added the missing cross-braces. Another update for those following. I've now added the front firewall as well as making the (missing) infill panels - still more to add around here. Also, the tail halves are now bonded together, along with a thin strip of plastic which will later be shaped into the weld seam. I'm not making an opening boot on this one as it really is just a 'test piece' for my roadster tail. The front scuttle is now fixed in place as this part is critical for the fit of the roadster part. The door skins are just taped in place to get the proper location for the tail. Once it was marked on the sills, the door skins were removed and the rear part Araldited in place. I'll leave it to harden until tomorrow. After that, more strengthening will be added underneath and along the back tub wall. roymattblack attached the following image(s):

Not much progress here yet but I've removed the tail section and re-fitted it with much heftier fixing tabs and added a support panel under the car, behind the cockpit rear wall. Some filler added at the joins etc so a day or so to harden off before sanding it smooth. roymattblack attached the following image(s):

Thanks Alan. As I mentioned at the beginning, this one is just really a 'test bed' for my resin roadster tail. I'm not going overboard, and I'm deliberately using a lot of the Revell kit instead of just using the floor pan, front firewall, bonnet and screen scuttle which is what I usually do. I normally even cast my own resin engine parts. I'm still going to add a lot of engine detail and scratch my own interior and wheels/tyres. To begin, I've started adding the missing engine frame parts. roymattblack attached the following image(s):

Tony - I'm ALWAYS thinking 'what do I do next?'...
Luckily, I'm a retired geezer who has about 8 hours a day to fiddle with models (and other stuff) so yes, it does seem to rattle on quite quickly.

This one hasn't been forgotten. I've added more to the engine frame - still more to add. The joins between the scuttle and base have had filler and sanding, the same around the tail where it meets the base. Lots of sanding, and now a spot of primer so I can sand and see where it needs more filling and smoothing... roymattblack attached the following image(s):
