Hi Everyone, I'm a beginner in the wooden ship modeling world and am working on the Virginia. So far following the instructions have gone off with out a hitch until now. I'm to the point of planking the hull and I've come across a couple of issues I'm not sure what to do with. Wen I installed the deck plate I noticed the holes for the masts and some of the bulk heads did not line up. I'm sure this is an easy fix but I'm hesitant to continue if it means all sorts of fit issues further down the build. Can anyone give me some good advice here.  Hi Bick having built this kit I had the same problem with the mast hole not lining up and needed trimming but it wasn't a problem. The bulkheads need to be in line so check with a peace of planking that they all touch the plank if not you can add a thin peace of strip to bulk it out and sanded back if necessary to get the right shape. The discrepancies you point out are quite common with these kind of kits but are very easily rectified. As a newcomer to wooden ship building the you may find this topic interesting, will give you a good insight before you start fairing the hull ready for planking..... https://forum.model-spac...spx?g=posts&t=19140

So for the advice has been awesome. I'm almost ready to start planking. But before I do I have another question. There is nothing in the instructions but should the keel be thinned down to adjust for the thickness of the planking and if so how much. If not then what is the correct way to plank the hull without having issues when I apply the the pieces they gave me for the final look of the keel Bick65 attached the following image(s):
