Imperial Yacht Standart, Pack 4, Stages 26-36.

Stage 26

Stage 26 contents:- Boiler fret and etch skylights.

Remove the parts from the boiler fret and sand them smooth. Assemble the parts and when dry sand the assembly smooth. Test fit the boiler room on the deck.

From stage 19 take the life boat and smooth it with sandpaper. Paint it in the same way you have painted the other lifeboats and then add the thwarts to the inside.

Stage complete.

Store any unused parts in a labelled bag for future use .

Stage 27

Stage 27 contents:- Bulwark and plastic sheet.

Smooth the surface of the Bulwark then paint the side that is marked 'A1' matt white. Take the plastic sheet and cut a 20mm x 210mm strip off it. Use this strip to glaze the portholes cutting it to the sizes shown in the instructions and then glueing them in place.

When the glue is dry fix the bulwark to the bow of the ship in the same way you fixed the bulwark on the other side of the ship.

Next take the boiler room assembly from Stage 26 and using a file chamfer the inner edge to 45 degrees. Take a piece of 1x3mm strip and cut 8 lengths and glue them to the corners of the boiler room. When the strips have dried sand them to the boiler room edges.

Stage complete.

Stage 28

Stage 28 contents:-
Bulwark, cannon, cannon mount and davit.

Smooth the surface of the Bulwark then paint the side that is marked 'A2' matt white. Take the plastic sheet and cut a 20mm x 210mm strip off it. Use this strip to glaze the portholes cutting it to the sizes shown in the instructions and then glueing them in place.

Take the bulwark and glue it next to the one previously fitted by inserting the tab at the bow end then glue and nail it in place making sure the bulwark is positioned exactly 7mm above the deck.

Take the metal parts and smooth any burs with a file, undercoat the parts then paint the davit white. Paint the gun with gunmetal and its stand black. When the paint is dry glue the gun onto its stand.

Stage complete.

Stage 29

Stage 29 contents:-
Bulwark and binnacles.

Paint the inner face marked with 'A3' white making sure you paint the sides of the portholes as well. Cut another strip of clear plastic ,cut to size and glue them in position on the bulwark. When dry glue and nail the bulwark to the ship next to the last one fitted.

Take the three binnacles and with a file remove any burrs present. Then paint them in the same way you painted the binnacle from 'Stage 25'.

Stage 30

Stage 30 contents :-
Bulwark, wooden strip and a boat.

Take the bulwark and paint the inner face marked with 'A4' white making sure you paint the portholes. Cut and glue another clear plastic strip to cover the portholes and when dry glue and pin it in place next to the last one fitted.

Take the boat and remove any burrs from it, add the rudder from the brass fret then paint it in the same way you painted the other boats. Stain the wooden strip with your chosen stain then add the thwarts to the inside of the boat.

Stage complete.

Stage 31

Stage 31 contents:-
Bulwarks, clear sheet and nails.

Smooth the bulwarks and paint the side without any stampings white then fit it to the side of the ship and mark the bottom edge onto the frames. Cut the plastic sheet into 10mm wide strips then take a strip and lay it between frames 5 and 6 mark the inner edges of the frame onto the strip. Bend at the marks made into a right angle and trim the ends to 7mm deep.

If you have not already done so fair the frames then glue the plastic strip you just made 5mm lower than the bulwark above it between frames 5 and 6. Continue to make strips like the one just made and glue them in position starting at the bow and going back to frame 9.

Line up the bulwark 'A5' with the notches on the bulwark above it then glue and pin it in place. Do the same for bulwark 'A6'.

Stage complete.

Stage 32

Stage 32 contents:-
Bulwarks and cannon.

This stage is a repeat of stage 31 but on the other side of the ship. Cut and place the plastic strips in position like before then add the bulwarks.

Take the cannon parts and smooth any casting burrs off them then paint it the same way you painted the other cannon.

Stage 33

Stage 33 contents:-
Boiler room fret and etch skylights.

Remove the parts from the boiler room fret and sand the edges smooth. Assembly the boiler room parts in the same way you built the previous one smoothing the edges when dry. Chamfer the inner edge of the side pieces and adding the eight corner parts cut from 1 x 3 mm strip wood.

Take the skylight fret included in this stage and the supplied with the other boiler room you made. Remove the four skylights and smooth the edges. Next take a burnishing fluid of your choice and paint it onto the detail surface side of the skylights and leave to dry.

Using thinners to remove the excess burnishing fluid did not work for me so I used micromesh pads to remove the excess just leaving the liquid in the recesses to highlight them.

Test fit the skylights and then store them safely.

Stage complete.

Stage 34

Stage 34 contents:-
Wooden strips,bulwarks and a vent.

Take the bulwarks and lay them on to the frames and mark the bottom edges onto the frames then paint the unmarked side white on both bulwarks. Cut more 10mm wide clear strips and place then between the frames as you did in the last stage you can complete the run to the stern for both bulwarks if you wish.

Glue and pin both bulwarks in place at the stern end of bulwark 'A8' there is quite a curve you may need to clamp and nail the bulwark in place here until the glue has dried.

Stage complete.

Stage 35

Stage 35 contents:-
Bulwark, hatches and a boat.

Smooth the bulwark and then paint the side with no part number on it white. Lay the bulwark against the starboard side frames under frame 'A5' making sure the part fits in the slots of 'A5' and mark the base on the frames as before. Cut more plastic strips and glue them between frames 2 to 5. Then glue and pin the bulwark in place.

Remove the hatch parts from the fret and make up the two hatches noting they are of two different sizes. When the glue is dry sand both hatches smooth .

Stage complete.

Stage 36

Stage 36 contents:-
Bulwarks, plastic sheet and mast details.

Smooth the bulwarks and then paint the unmarked side white. Continue as you did in previous stages to add plastic strips between the rear starboard frames and then glue/pin bulwarks 'A7 and A8' in position.

At the port bow add more plastic strips between frames 2 to 5 like you did on the starboard side and then glue and pin bulwark 'A9' in position.

Stage complete.
