Hi all, I have noticed recently that it has gone very quiet on this part of the Motor Modelling forum apart from the same few names who regularly post and whilst it is always nice to receive comments about one's own build it is also interesting to see the work of others and discuss techniques or tips. Although plenty seem to be popping by and having a read, there seems to be very few members actually posting anything about their own personal builds of this fantastic McLaren and was wondering why that is, as the Victory and other ship builds seem very well catered for with regular advice and comment, but the McLaren section is becoming a bit stale lately methinks ?? Maybe it's because a lot of you guys are saving the weekly parts for a later start, which is fine, or maybe you've been too busy to post, or maybe some just don't have access to a digital camera or know how to post photos ?? What has happened to Warthog's VERY interesting build, Schueyking's build, Kryten2b and others. Have you all given up on the Mac ?? It just seems very quiet in the McLaren build section lately, so come on lads, don't be shy, why not post something up for all to have a look at and give this forum a much needed injection of sparkle ?? Just a thought and definitely NOT a criticism you understand, so why not give it a go !! Cheers ... Kev.

Hi Kev, I do agree it has been pretty quiet these past few months, may be that being down to lack of parts or may be that some don't have a great deal of time during the winter months... Well for me I can say that I am still moving along with my build but the engine project is one that I want to show once its complete, then I will post process photos as I think this will make it more intresting... I have not gone for the "working" pistons as Tom Suggested in my build but Bigmal (tony) knows what I am looking to achieve and yes it takes time and a lot of patience.. Spence

Hi Spencer, Good stuff mate and seriously looking forward to seeing what you have been up to !! I do understand that what you are doing takes time and a lot of skill and patience and I am sure that it will be amazing when finished judging by the photos of your previous work. I also know that you have the skills needed to pull it off, so definitely looking forward to that matey and a lot of others also seem to be hungry for more, so well done to you in anticipation!! I also agree with your comments Spencer, about why people don't post and I sincerely hope that people don't think I'm having a moan here, as I'm not, I'm just saying I think we could do with a few more informative posts or chat about modelling maybe in the Motor section ?? We seem to have suffered rather a lot of posts recently where members are whinging about what we will or won't be getting compared to Japan, etc, which gets quite boring to read and not very much about the real reason for this forum existing which is to discuss modelling ?? I think we need to take this forum further forward with some proper posting from more members and a few more build diaries, instead of that same old, same old stuff methinks ?? I shall look forward to seeing your masterpiece Spencer - working pistons or not - and thanks for the comment mate much appreciated !! Cheers ... Kev.

hi senna and the rest of you guys,I have not put up pics of my build, because the regulars here have been doing a stirling job, model cars are a different technique to boats,as the parts are already made,so one car is going to be the same as the next, and the f1 is already finished in paint and decals, and putting a few screws in every week,is a bit boring,so not much to talk about, don't get me wrong,it's a superb kit and will look the biz when finished.it's the mods that most interests me,and look forward to seeing more in the future. Current builds: SotS, USS Consitution, San Felipe, D51 loco, HMS Surprise, RB7, Arab Dhow, Jotika HMS Victory Completed builds: HMS Pickel, Thermopylae, Mississipi river boat, Mary Rose, Cutty Sark, San Francisco II, HMS Victory x5, Titanic Lifeboat, Panart HMS Victory Launch, Hachette Titanic, Virginia Schooner, Endeavour Longboat. http://www.model-space.com/gb/

Hi Karl, Thanks for the comment mate, much appreciated and I take your point about things being different with these prepainted car kits, that they appear to all be the same and consequently might get boring. I wish that DeAg and Kyosho had produced this kit with two options, painted or unpainted, as they do with the Victory, then the skilled modellers could do their thing whilst the first timers or less confident could take the ready made version and just screw and glue it together. Interesting thought here - I am a skilled modeller with years of experience and I have to say it is actually HARDER to construct this kit in a way that doesn't result in damaged paintwork from glue spills etc, than it would be if it was to be painted after all work had been done and then decalled. That would also allow the people like myself, yourself and others who might normally wish to do some modding to get more out of it maybe ?? I suspect it is more to do with attracting the many first time modellers than it is about those who already know what they are doing ( or think they do - LOL )?? The other point I would like to make is the one you touched on about one car being the same as the next and others have also quoted that in the past as a reason for not posting up a build diary. I also thought that at first but wanted to post mine up anyway and although I am only doing the build 'standard' and as it comes, I still find lots to talk about in my diary, with tips to pass on about what doesn't fit properly or where things could be done slightly different to the mag instructions, so in a way they are all the same as you say .... but they are all different as well ?? Thanks again for the comment Karl. P.S - Any more on your very interesting 'Vespucci' build ?? Cheers ... Kev.

I havent bother with pics of my build as i am doing the same way as deg tells me so dont see what the point is as others are doing a great job with mod them and there the ones i look at tbh Its probably gone quiet cause the issues that some of us are at you are getting very little parts so not really worth commenting on how they put the rear tyre on the wheel etc I am sure that when it gets more intresting the site will pick up I for one have decided a little while back to save up my copies so as of yet i havent built anything from the issue when we got the first parts of the engine last part i built was the rear wing but its hard not to build it All the best Dave

Hi Dave, Thanks for your comment mate, much appreciated. As I said to Karl I understand why many members don't do weekly build diaries as they would all basically be the same thing, but the same can sometimes be different if you get my meaning. Not everyone feels confident enough to do a diary or show their work and I fully understand that and accept it. Personally, I like to post my diary because I enjoy doing it and I hope that it helps others with their builds, but even if most don't want to do diaries, and I am not saying they should unless they want to, it would still be nice to see some new photos from other members every now and then, even if it is just to compare models and have a chat about them or praise their work ?? Maybe even if people just made more constructive comments or just generally posted more instead of signing in, reading the posts and then disappearing with nothing to say as quite a few seem to do ?? I do take your point, as others have also said, that sometimes there is so little to do that it would seem pointless and I have to agree with that, but I do feel this forum is lacking in a certain kind of sparkle that the ship modellers seem to have on their forum ?? Thanks again for the comment Dave !! Cheers ... Kev.

I have to agree with your remarks Senna. For myself because the parts are rather slow I have started to build the 007 DB5 Aston Martin, this model leaves masses of room for modification from interior painting or carpeting the floor to detailing the engine bay prior to fitting the engine (not built yet) all of which fills my time whilst waiting for the Mclaren. I will post a few pics just to show what Im doing. One tip I do have to pass on for those who may want to use copper wire for brake lines etc. To straighten your wire my tip is to put one end of the wire in your vice, the other into your mini drill, hold it taught and spin the drill for a couple of seconds. It will make the wire arrow straight and also lightly work harden it so when you bend it, it stays put. Also it will give the wire a very slightly ribbed surface for reality.

Hi Tony, Thanks for your kind comment, very much appreciated. Excellent stuff there with a fantastic tip for straightening the copper wire and the pipes look very good indeed !! I can see Mike (MWG) having to constantly look over his shoulder at you as your build is looking very cool indeed. Nice to have a third DB5 diary on here to look at and I have to say this is exactly what I was getting at when I started this topic, the need for some interesting stuff to talk about, so I am glad that I brought it up if this is how people are going to respond. Thankyou !! Well done Tony and keep the pics coming they are very welcome !!! Cheers ... Kev.

Hi again Karl, I look forward to seeing some more of your builds mate, particularly the 'Vespucci', love it, so detailed and although I am not currently on the ship modelling side of this forum as a builder, I have followed them since the day I joined MS. You certainly like to keep yourself busy Karl and obviously love your modelling, though no wonder when this is such a great hobby !!!! Cheers ... Kev.
