Stage 59

Stage 59 contents:-
Wooden strips and a vent.

Measure the length of the keel and mark the half way point on the hull between the strips already laid. Next take a wooden strip and make a mark at its halfway point. Line up the mark on the strip with the mark on the hull and place it on the bulwark edge of the strips laid. Note the ends of the strip should touch the plank below leaving a thin wedge shape in the centre.

Take another strip and place its end at the mark on the hull and lay it towards the bow. The strip end will make contact with the strip below it again leaving a wedge shape. Lay another plank on that row towards the stern again leaving a wedge shape. Start row three by lining up the plank ends with the first one laid.

Continue adding another plank forward noting that this plank will need to be chamfered where it meets the plank below it. Lay the next plank on the row towards the stern again chamfering it where it meets the plank below it.

Next fill all the wedge shaped gaps and any other gaps in the planking until the planking is complete on that side. Repeat all the steps above on the other side of the hull.
