Hi all, I haven't posted anything for a long time now and I'm way behind you all with my build due to work commitments and just not finding the time to work on the Victory. When I have posted a topic in the past, I've always been impressed with the tips and help that have been offered to me so I'm really hoping that this time I get the same response. I have hit a problem with my planking! I am on issue 37 and have a box full of parts waiting to be used. The first step of issue 37 tells us to add planks to the point where there us room to fit in just 10 or so more rows, where we then move onto issue 38 and do all that measuring and filling in the table to determine widths, tapering, length etc etc. to then complete the planking, which to be honest I'm dying to have done. My problem is that I can roughly fit 13 more planks either side to finish the planking and I have already reached the top point at the stern that we should be at when we only have 10 more planks to go. Is this ok? and do I just continue on regardless until I only have space for 10 planks? Have a look at my pictures below (p.s. this is my first ever build, i know it's far from perfect but I'm trying my best) (p.p.s If anyone notices something wrong or would like to give tips on how I could possibly improve what I'm doing then please do). Many thanks in advance, Eoin

Impressive job on how you have managed to fit so many planks in without tapering them. They should have been tapered from around the 3/or 4 plank that runs up the stern/transom. If you are painting or coppering then you can probaly carry on with the instruction in the magazine at the place your at, if you intend to leave a natural wood finish then a veneer of wooden strips will be required. If none of the above suggestions are suitable then the planks will need to be removed and tapered until the correct sequence is acheived. I know that Son of Bulwark (darron) did a graphic illustration in his build on how to taper the planks, spend a few minutes looking through that build for inspiration, there are all the other build diaries to look through as well, have a look through there will be something to help. Hi Steve,
Thank you for your help. i will have a look through other builds and son of bulwarks tutorial. i will be painting my build so will therefore just attempt carrying on. would you suggest though that i continue planning following issue 37 for three more planks or to now start with issue 38 and filling in that table? I hope i'm making sense, i just want to get it right.
Thanks, Eoin

Thanks, Eoin If it was me I would carry on until you have a gap for ten then fill in the chart. you can start tapering now. I seem to recall i had 12 rows at your stage. If you are painting then the important thing is to achieve a smooth hull that's the correct shape not necessarily a pretty hull. “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” -Mark Twain

As Jase recommends, carry on. But start from the keel and work back towards what you have already done. Of course this is presuming paint, tiles or veneer. I suggest working back from the keel as these will be planks with less bends and cuts?. Steve..

Ditto. Maybe fit another row of planks and then 2 or 3 rows on the keel before proceeding to issue 38
