Imperial Yacht Standart, Pack 8, Stages 68-78.
Stage 68
Stage 68 contents:- Aft Superstructure Fret and a Vent.
Remove part 'A' from the fret and sand the edges smooth. Test fit and glue the part onto the superstructure. Now remove part 'B' from the fret and sand the edges smooth. Test-fit and glue the part to the other end of the superstructure. Next, remove the two part 'C's from the fret and sand the edges smooth. Test-fit and glue the two parts onto the aft end of the superstructure and part 'B'. Separate part 'D' from the fret and glue between parts 'C'.
Retrieve the fret supplied with stage 63 and remove the rudder. Sand the edges smooth then round off the long straight edge. Now cut six 6mm lengths of 1x3mm wooden strip and glue three of them in the positions shown in step 10 of the instructions. Repeat the process to fit the remaining three strips to the other side of the rudder.
Place the rudder onto the keel and mark where the upper end of it overlaps the hull. Cut away the section marked and test-fit in place again.
Stage complete.

Stage 69
Stage 69 contents:- Propeller Mounts Fret, Gun, Gun Mount and Davits.
Retrieve the parts fret supplied with Stage 53 and remove one of the shoulder pads from it. Prepare the gun and mount in the same way as the others and then glue the parts together.
Remove the two propeller mounts from the fret. Test-fit one of the mounts to the hull, inserting the tab into the corresponding hole at the stern. Now sand the curved edge of the mount to fit flush with the hull. Do this process gradually, sanding the part and then test-fitting again. Repeat until the mount is flush. Sand the long straight edge of the mount into a curve, then sand the projecting end of the mount into a cylinder. Prepare the second mount in the same way.
Glue the propeller mounts into position on the hull. Take a 2 x 5mm wooden strip and smooth the longer edges so it looks like the one shown in step 7 of the instructions. Now cut two lengths of the strip to fit between the keel and the mounts. Make sure the pieces are flush against both parts and then glue into place.
Mark a line across the keel 95mm forward of the aft end, then make another mark on the keel at a distance of 80mm from the point shown in step 10 of the instructions. Now Prepare three 2 x 5 x 250mm wooden strips, glue the first strip to the keel from the mark made at the stern. Then glue the next strip forward of that and the third strip up against that one to the mark made near the bow. Once the glue has dried, chamfer the ends of the strips to
an angle.

Stage 70
Stage 70 contents:- Wooden Strips, Aft Superstructure Parts Fret and Davit.
Take the 5x5x300mm wooden strips and round one of the corners along the entire length, then paint the strips with a mahogany colour paint. Now paint the unpainted part of the inside of the bulwark black. Once dry, apply a coat of clear varnish.
Glue the two prepared strips along the deck, up against the bulwark and the brass coloured strips. Sand the strips received with Stage 62, and then paint them brass. When the paint has dried, mark lines at 10mm intervals along them. Cut the end of the brass strip on the deck at a 45° angle then repeat on the other side of the deck.
Take one of the strips prepared brass strips and cut one of its ends at a 45° angle. Glue it to the deck along the side of the 5x5x300mm strip. Now prepare a length of the brass-coloured strip to fit in the gap at the end of the mahogany strip; both ends will need to be cut to the correct angle. Glue the piece into place, then cover the joins with black marker, as shown in step 7 of the instructions. Repeat on the other side of the deck.
Cut lengths of the prepared brass strips to cover the aft end of the mahogany strip, and the opening in the bulwark. Cover the relevant points and joins with black marker. Repeat this step on the other side of the deck.
Remove the window frames and doors from the parts fret supplied with this stage. File the edges smooth, removing the joins. Glue the window frames and doors to the side of the aft superstructure.

Stage 71
Stage 71 contents:- Wooden Strips, Aft Superstructure Details Fret Engine Order Telegraph.
Paint the telegraph with metal primer. When dry, apply black and brass paints as detailed in steps 1 and 2 of the instructions.
Cut eight lengths of 1x3x250mm wooden strips equal to the height of the aft superstructure then glue the strips to the corners of the superstructure. Now glue lengths of 1x3x250mm strips along the bottom edge of the superstructure.
Remove the window frames and doors from the parts fret supplied with this stage and file the edges smooth, removing the joins. Glue the window frames and doors to the side of the aft superstructure then glue the remaining two window frames onto the front of the superstructure.
Retrieve the central superstructure, assembled in Stage 47 and sand all the joins smooth. Glue lengths of 1x3x250mm wooden strip to the corners and then along the bottom edges of the central superstructure. Leave one wall bare as shown in step 11 of the instructions.

Stage 72
Stage 72 contents:- Aft Superstructure Upper Fret, Windlass and Aft Superstructure Parts Fret.
Apply a coat of metal primer to the windlass, then once this has dried, paint it white. When the white has dried, paint the top of the windlass black.
Remove all of the parts from the aft superstructure upper fret and sand them smooth. Glue one long side panel along the long edge of the large piece, then one side panel to the end. Glue the second long side panel and side panel into place. Leave the assembly to one side until the glue has dried then sand the surface and joins of the assembly smooth.
Cut eight lengths of 1x3x250mm wooden strips equal to the height of the assembly. Glue the strips to the corners. Test-fit the aft superstructure upper on top of the aft superstructure, inserting the ends into the slots. If the bottom of the new assembly isn’t flush, sand it until it is.
Remove the window frames and doors from the parts fret supplied with this stage. File the edges smooth, removing the joins. Glue the window frames and doors to the aft superstructure upper, as shown in step 8 of the instructions.
Retrieve the central superstructure and the parts fret from Stage 38. Carefully separate the parts from the fret and sand smooth. Place the square part up against the bare wall of the superstructure. Mark the point where it intersects the strips at the sides then cut away the parts of the strips just marked. Test-fit the square on the top of the superstructure. It should rest on the tops of the strips and be flush with the top of the part. Trim the strips more if necessary

Stage 73
Contents: Parts Fret and a Vent.
Separate the two rectangular pieces from the fret and carefully sand them smooth. Place the edge of the outer rectangular frame piece up against the top of the aft superstructure upper and mark the point where it intersects the corner strips. Cut away the small upper sections of the corner strips you have just marked. Now test-fit the rectangular frame onto the top of the superstructure. It should rest on the tops of the corner strips and be flush with the top of the superstructure. Trim the strips more if necessary, do not glue into place yet.
Remove the large ‘U’ shaped part from the fret and carefully sand smooth. Using the solid rectangular piece, mark where it intersects the corner strips on the top of the aft superstructure and cut away the top parts of the strips. Test-fit the ‘U’ shaped part on the top of the strips. It should rest on the tops of the strips and be flush with the top of the superstructure. Trim the strips more if necessary, do not glue into place yet.
Start preparing the hull for painting by taking some sandpaper and use it to smooth the entire hull. I use a course grade to start with and move to finer grades as I progress. Sand the stem to a thickness of 1.5mm then gently round the edges. Ensure that the strips and bulwarks are all flush. Take your time with this process to obtain the best overall finish possible. The use of filler will be done on the next build stage.
Now mark a line on the keel, 305mm forward of the aft end. Take two 2x5x250mm wooden strips, curve the ends and lightly sand the strips smooth. Glue the two strips along the hull, from the mark made on the keel, running parallel to the keel and 30mm from it.

Stage 74
Contents: Superstructure Parts Fret, Windlass and Brass Wire.
Apply a coat of metal primer to the windlass and leave to dry. Paint the windlass black then paint the band brass.
Remove the parts from the superstructure parts fret supplied with this stage and gently file away any imperfections. Glue the windows and doors to the side of the aft superstructure as shown in step 2 of the instructions. Glue the remaining window frames and door to the end of the aft superstructure.
Now cut two 11mm and two 20mm lengths of 2x5mm wooden strip. Split them lengthways so you have four 3mm widths. Turn the aft superstructure over and glue the two 3x11mm pieces to the underside of the roof, 11mm in from the sides. Once dry, glue the two 3x20mm lengths to the roof, up against the 11mm lengths.
Apply a coat of primer to the aft superstructure and when dry, sand the surface smooth. Paint the sides, inside and outside, of the aft superstructure to match the boiler rooms. Now apply a good quality wood filler to the hull, making sure to fill in any gaps between the wooden strips. You may want to fill in the portholes with foam pieces to avoid getting any filler in them. Pay close attention to the joins between the propeller parts and the hull, applying more putty here to make the transition between the parts smooth.
Once the filler has dried, use sandpaper to smooth the hull. Repeat the filling and sanding process until all gaps are filled and the hull is completely smooth. Take your time with this process to achieve the best end results. Now retrieve the hawse from stage 41 and the hawse holes from stage 52, glue them into place on both side of the bow.

Stage 75
Contents: Plastic Sheet, Davit and Brass Wire.
Cut small pieces of foam to fit inside the various portholes and window on both sides of the hull. The pieces need to completely fill the holes so that when you begin to paint the hull, no paint gets inside them. Now take some pieces of paper and tape them onto the upper deck to prevent any paint from getting on it.
Apply a coat of primer to the entire hull and rudder. Once dried, sand smooth and apply a coat of matt white paint. If there are any irregularities in the surface of the hull, apply some putty to them. When dry, sand smooth again. Repeat this process with paint and putty until the surface is smooth.
Protect the upper part of the hull with masking tape and the lower portholes with foam. Paint the lower part of the hull and rudder with a matt light beige colour. Wait for the paint to dry then carefully remove the masking tape from the hull.
Take the plastic sheet and cut 12mm wide strips from it. Retrieve the aft superstructure and glue the pieces of plastic over the inside of the windows. Do not cover the two windows at the aft of the superstructure. Now paint the roof of the superstructure with matt black paint.
Stage complete.

Stage 76
Contents: Windows Fret, Compass Stand and Brass Wire.
Place the model on the work stand on a flat surface, making sure it is seated evenly. Using a waterline marker, draw a line stem to stern, 3mm below the lowest porthole. Repeat on the other side. Now apply masking tape to the hull from this line down and ensure the lower part of the hull is protected during the painting process. Make sure there is protective foam in the upper row of square windows.
Apply a coat of gloss black paint to the hull. When dry, apply a thin layer of gloss varnish. Once the varnish has dried, carefully remove the masking tape and the pieces of protective foam. Hold the rudder against the end of the keel and mark the level of the black paint onto it. Mask around the rudder below the line just marked and paint the top of the rudder with gloss black. Apply a coat of gloss varnish, then remove the masking tape when the varnish has dried.
Remove the window frames from the windows fret and gently file to remove any burrs. Glue the window frames to the aft superstructure upper, the smaller frames fit fore and aft and the larger frames fit along the sides. When the window frames have dried in place, apply a coat of primer inside and outside of the superstructure the paint mahogany. Once dried paint the roof matt black.

Stage 77
Contents: Brass Wire and a Vent.
Cut three 9mm wide strips from the remaining plastic sheet. Retrieve the aft superstructure upper and glue the plastic strips to the inside to cover the windows.
Now mark a line along the centre of the two aft superstructure parts. Begin gluing wooden strips from stage 70, to the aft superstructure from the line marked out towards the edge. The strips should overlap the ends slightly. Then glue strips to cover the other side of the roof. Now follow the same process to glue strips to the top of the aft superstructure upper.
When the glue is dry, carefully remove the excess strips around the edge and cut through the various openings in the roof. Sand to roofs of both parts smooth. Mark between the strips with a sharp pencil, then apply a coat of clear matt varnish over the roofs.
Glue pieces of foam onto the supports of the work stand to prevent damage to the painted hull.

Stage 78 Contents: Davit, Crane and Brass Wire.
Retrieve the -.5mm brass wire from stage 74. Straighten a section of wire to fit on the rounded mahogany strip, between the black lines at either end of the brass coloured strip on the deck. Glue the wire into place and repeat on the other side. Cut lengths of wire to match the number of black lines along the brass coloured strip. The wire sections should fit between the bulwark and the wire you have just fitted. Slightly bend the pieces of wire to match the curve of the mahogany strip. Now glue the first piece at the end, in line with the first black line. Glue the rest of the prepared pieces of wire along the mahogany strip, always in line with the black lines.
Retrieve the three superstructure surround parts from stage 73 and sand the parts smooth. Apply a coat of primer then paint the parts with matt white paint. Test-fit the large part ‘A’ around the top of the aft superstructure. Make any adjustments so that the fit is flush then glue into place. Next, test-fit and glue part ‘B’ into place around the other end of the aft superstructure. Now test-fit and glue part ‘C’ around the aft superstructure upper.
Retrieve the compass stand from stage 76 and apply a coat of metal primer. When dry, apply a coat of matt black paint. Glue the compass stand onto the aft superstructure, 10mm in from the forward end and aligned centrally.
