I must admit i was surprised by just how much they have packed into this area and it does not stop because issue 7 will have use doing even more on the engine.

Part works are “funny” in that you get a mailing with lots to do and then one were you do next to nothing.

This one would keep anyone very busy. Especially those that really want to go to town with extra detailing.

So far happy with the parts and the assembly so its looking promising that i will continue with this one. The next 4 editions will be the final test as at that point if i cancel at least i have not gone to far into the build.

But looking at what i finished up with so far i am quite pleased with it.

ISSUE 8 – DETAILS FOR THE SUPERCHARGER

PICTURES 15 & 16

We start by gluing together the 2 parts of the Supercharger Backing. Again, metal parts so superglue required in this case.

Once set we then take this and glue it to the backing base part.

PICTURES 17 Through 22

Taking the 2 plastic frets we start to assemble the small details parts that can be seen in this range of pictures.

Being plastic, we can put these together using styrene cement rather than superglue.

PICTURES 23 & 24

Back to the superglue we start putting these small detail parts into place on the supercharger.

Next part is to glue the supercharger backing to the main supercharger assemble.

We complete the supercharger assembly in this section by gluing into place some of the remaining details.

PICTURE 34

We start with the two pipe halves and these are carefully glued together using superglue.

Next up are the engine top covers and pipes and we make 2 sub-assemblies using these parts.

Talking these 2 sub-assemblies and the pipe we join these parts together using superglue.

We then remove all 4 parts from the supercharger detail frame and as these are plastic, glue together, making 2 sub-assemblies, with styrene glue.

These 2 parts are then glued into place onto the supercharger.

Its worth noting that removing these parts from the fret does leave some missing paint.

Depending on just how visible this is on the final assemble I may need to touch in with some silver paint.

PICTURES 40 & 41

The first of 4 coolant pipes are now glued into place.

What is nice with these is they are made of a soft “vinyl” material so are very flexible and easy to install.

PICTURES 42 & 43

Time to bring 2 more assemblies together, in this case the super charger and the engine block.

This is all getting quite weighty now as the majority of the parts are metal.

The Pipe and engine top covers is then slide into place.

Fit of this is quite loose and noted in the instructions which mentions this will be held in place as further parts are added in a later part of the build.

The final part of this stage is to fit the remaining coolant pipes.

Again, these are flexible vinyl so fit easily with any minor adjustment being made possible by the flexibility of the parts.

HACHETTE SPITFIRE Mk 1A – SATURDAY 30th May 2020

Issues 11, 12, 13 and 14 have arrived.

Some attention required this time as there is a correction printed in issue 11 and also a callout in issue 14 regarding the supplied screws (hope this is not going to be a common issue ongoing.

ISSUE 11 – WORKING ON OIL PIPES AND THE NOSE FRAME

PICTURES 1 through 4

We start with the correction issued with is pack. It appears that part of the engine support was omitted from an earlier stage so in this correction we retro-fit the bracket.

PICTURES 6, 7 & 8

We start by removing the 2 rear screws holding the motor housing in place.

The engine support bracket is then fitted and screwed into place with the 2 longer screws supplied with the bracket.

Pic 7 and Pic 8 we are told how to route the cable from the motor.

PICTURES 10, 11, 12 & 13

We first off have to make up the oil pipe. Quite a fiddly assembly.

Pic 10 when cutting these oil pipe connectors from the fret we need to ensure the part is removed correctly leaving a small plug at the end when will get glued into the engine top.

Pic 12 each of the connectors has to be cut so that they can be fitted around the oil pipe.

Pic 13 one thing to watch for is the fact that on the fret the pipe connectors do not follow a “1, 2, 3” sequence so when installing these onto the oil pipe it important to make sure you are working with the correct part.

PICTURES 14 & 15

The oil pipe is then superglued in place on the engine top.

The oil pipe connectors are glued in turn into the holes on the engine block.

Really small areas to work on and its showing me I need to book a sight test when its safe to do so.

PICTURES 16 & 17

To finish off this section we install the left and right front frame sections. This was fun trying to line everything up and keeping it all in place.

What I did notice with one of these parts is that the paint finish is not very good. It appears the metal part was not primed and as such I managed to flake off some of the paint, but luckily on the inside of the part so it will not be seen.
