Good evening from 'The Dockyard'. More progress this week on fitting out the Torpedo Compartment. I started by making the 6 bunk beds and mattresses. 3 of the bunk beds will be folded down. The attached photo shows the component parts made, painted, upholstered and ready for fitting. I then built up the 2 torpedoes. I bought these off a supplier in Germany, May 2015. Little did i know at the time that it would be 6.5 years before i got round to making them!  A little clean up needed and they came with separate PE, to make the fins and propellers. I did a fair bit of research on the colour scheme for them, as some pics of the G7 torpedoes showed them painted with red and white nose cones; turns out, these are dummy torpedoes and not the real thing! What i found out was that money was so short in WWII, these torpedoes were mass produced in mild steel, which rusted easily. To prevent this they were slathered in grease, which is why some opinions suggested that they were painted in a green/yellow colour, when in fact they were covered in grease! Good afternoon from 'The Dockyard'. Lots of progress made on fitting out the Torpedo Compartment this week. First job was to make the lockers for the crew. Using walnut veneer, i cut out 15 individual locker doors and drilled 2 x 0.8mm diameter holes in each. Crazy, but it wouldn't look the same without!
