Since the arrival of issue 3 is approaching fast and I expect that we are all looking forward to getting stuck in to that carronade, does anyone have any detailed pics, diagrams or information pertaining to the real thing? whilst on the subject of research, pics and info, it would be cool and very useful if, prior to the release of each issue, our more research orientated shipmates, could provide some detailing on the parts we are about to receive, thus building a kind of easy-to-find-and-follow database. Just a thought. Thanks in advance. Schnellboots on back burner

I can go throught the relavant pages in either Longridge's book and Mckays, but getting a pic or two would be a problem with copyright, Maybe I could link to a web site that sells the book whilst showing the picture?

Guys as an owner of a military website and forum I speak from experience in relation to dealing with copyright issues.
I think out of courtesy unless you own the copyright yourself we should be referencing where images or photos come from i.e. the website or book they were taken from. Of course there is no guarantee that those websites have permission to use the said images themselves, but at least we have done our bit in being transparent and fair in our usage.
Intellectual property rights is a minefield and some people get understandably very protective of their material. However as the material is being used for educational usage it would take a pretty draconian individual or organisation to take umbrage of what we are doing here and it is good advertising for the work in question.

So would you suggest we link from the web site we have taken pics and link to a site that sells the book we have scanned an image from?

Way to go! greenstuff at the ready! By way of return for your most helpful input I shall do a detailed painting and detailing guide on the brushworks thread for those who want to take the supplied model (in issue 3) one or two steps further. Whilst I am not planning on painting my build, I am keen to make some small, painted miniature vignettes (similar to those in posts 8 and 10)to display alongside the finished model. Quote:So would you suggest we link from the web site we have taken pics and link to a site that sells the book we have scanned an image from Scanning images from books are potentially the more problematic, and posting images on the internet without permission is the one area which authors and publishers can get shirty about. Obviously it is down to Admin here what they want, but as far as books go the book name and author in my opinion would suffice. As I said there is a fair use clause for educational purposes within UK copyright. As for imagery or text taken from other websites this is usually less problematic as their is almost an expectation that such material will be used elsewhere when published to the internet. As long as there is a reference. Just the website name or direct link is enough in my book. I usually post such links directly under the image. I am certainly no lawyer or expert on this, but I have been on the end of both situations, complaints from well known magazine editors about forum images taken from news websites and posted by members discussing the article, as well as members having their own images and research stolen without permission and used on commercial websites for profit. Anyway sorry to hijack the thread, maybe this warrants a separate topic or some guidance from Admin.

Yes, superb photos and the fact that you have taken them from several angles helps considerably. The depth of focus is also impressive - what camera did you use? Is photography another of your hobbies? Thanks very much for sharing. Schnellboots on back burner

if you go on the offical HMS Victory web site they have lots of photos but also painting tips for model builders it was that info that lead me to buy the admiral paints they have been matched to the victory colours exactly “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” -Mark Twain
