Hi all, decided to start a build log of my Akagi so that I can benefit from those more experienced than I and to share my experiences. Just a quick word on my background, I have been making plastic models since my father introduced me to the craft at about 5. This is my first attempt at a wooden ship (not quite true, I did start the Endeavor Longboat but a part is missing, thats probably why my DVD player has stopped working!  ). I collected the first few issues before attempting construction which I started over the Christmas. To date I have only worked on the wooden pieces, leaving the metal parts for later.  Hi all, thanks for the comments, I have finally managed to upload some pics. I collected the first few issues and did not begin construction until I had all the keel parts and the frames. I began construction over the Christmas and although I am following the official build log, I have not yet started the metal parts. This is the stage that I have reached. All comments welcome, Ger

Welcome to the forums. Looks like your off to a great start As for the wood glue, i find warm water weakens it sufficient to remove any parts. I smile because i have NO IDEA whats going on :)

Hi all, I have dry fitted parts 27-30 but although they are in the correct place (I think) there are slight gaps and the joints do not form a smooth line. Should this be sorted by filling and sanding or have I gone astray, Your thoughts are welcome, Thanks, Ger

Hi, here are the pics of my problem area  . Please note that this is my first model of this type and this is a serious question, the differences in the photos are 1mm or less but I am unsure if this is normal with a wooden model which may be fixed with filler and sanding or should the pieces fit together more precisely, all comments welcome, thanks Ger

Hi Ger I had trouble fitting these items, but I think your fit is acceptable if you look at the official build you will see the fit is similar to yours. The planking will fit on top of these pieces so as long as they are flat and level, you should be ok because we sand the edges later. Hi Ger C I had the same problem as above but after a bit of sanding/ fetlin got them to fit reasonably well, as Mike says as long as its as close as u can get and flat it wont be a problem as we are both over half way through the planking and its fine.Also there will be quite a lot of curvature here when it comes to shaping the hull so all that wood sticking out will transform into a smooth shape. Hi, thanks for your comments and advice, will take it on board but for tonight I have a teething 7 month old to deal with  so will not be glueing these offending parts any time soon, Ger

By the way, by means of an update on my previous topic "help needed", no reply from customer care but AL sent me a replacement part at no charge I just started the longboat and intend to start a build log as soon as I have something to show, big thanks to MWG for his advice, Ger

Hi all, glued the parts 27-30 in posn, got them to fit a bit better than the dry fit on my last post but not v happy as there are still gaps but that seems like a common problem from the other posts that I have read. Mebey I'm not too far off  Ger

I used these pins to try and keep the parts in position while the glue dried, seemed to work.
