Hi all, I have made some progress with the planking, I am using a very slow method as I am trying to avoid the use of pins, here are some pics of where I am at the moment, sorry if the pics are not too clear, I have a new camera and am trying to get used to its controls Ger C attached the following image(s):

Hi Ger C  I have one comment. Elasticity of the planks should be perfectly removed to make such a hull painted model. Woods with residual elasticity will move in the future and will make cracks on the surface of the painted hull. This phenomenon may not be problem for wood-naked-models such as the VICTORY. Because the movement of the elastic plank is never big. But it is enough to make cracks on the painted hull. I used iron to warp the planks with heat.No pins or clamps were needed. I made the hull of the Yamato with using this method. There have been no cracks for more than 5 years. Hi Yaturo, Thanks for the advice, for the bow planks I soaked them in hot water and pined them in place and allowed them to dry before glueing, other planks I used the planking tool supplied with the model, all advice is welcome

Hi all, just a quick update, I have the planking almost complete. I am reasonably satisfied with the way it has turned out but I have noticed that my work has improved as the planking progressed. all comments, good or bad are welcome

I am a bit confused as to how far back the slope of the bow should continue, is it the full length of the bow plate? thanks

Hi Ger C I think this is what your asking about on the bow, if you take a ruler and place it so its touching the top bow former and aligne it with the bottom hull plate this will give the correct angle of the bow, hope this helps regards Andy Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Hi Ger C! Although I may misunderstand your question, I also try answering you. When I built the Akagi, I had the same question as you. Since it is very difficult for me to explain in English, I attach two pictures. The first picture is the bow block glued on the hull. Blue arrow shows the height of bow block. Superior margins of the frame and the bow block are matched. The second picture indicates a bow plate attached on the hull and bow block. Red arrows in these pictures shows the same part of the frame part. I think that the reason why we have to make the superior margins be matched is easyly understood.
