Hi shipmates,
I was a while since my last post but I was busy doing... planking :)

I've got my hull nearly finished now, only few more rows of planks (I hope to get issues 35-38 next week so I'll finish it off)

First of all take a look at this. I'm duing gunports Zeptrader's way and I've tried to paint it just to check the result. Have a look

By tomganc at 2010-12-31

And now have a look at the planking itself. I gave it rough sanding, but propper one will be when all is finished. Planking is far from being perfect but I'm happy so far. It is my first planking ever and I must admit I know I messed it up a little bit but I don't really care. It will be copper plated anyway.
Have a loook

Looking pretty good Tom, I am still stuck on issue 29 and had been since when the missus took a tumble and done her back in a number of weeks ago, of course, my work area is in the bedroom where the wife is laid up, so the build has been put on hold until further notice...Crying

Hi there again,
I've ran out planks so I've decided to get some gunports framing. As you've notticed before I'm doing gunports Zeptrader's way. I cut them to 10mm square and I'm inserting inner frames (9mm square). When gunports closed they will be flush with the hull.
I've done lower ports framming but it was really time consumming so I've decided to do something about it. Because I've had some scrap planks left I've decided to do use them. Have a look what I mean.

Hi there
As I prommised in last post please have a look on my finished hull planking. It needs some more filling and sanding but it looks good so far :)

By tomganc at 2011-01-29

I've tried to frame gun ports using profiles made from spare planks but it didn't work out as good as I planned. Instead I've used 1mm2 stock and made them quite quickly. I'm not framing upper gun ports yet. There is enough access from both sides to do it later.
Have a look what I've got so far

The gunport framing has turned out quite good!.
I am still planking the lower half of the hull and framing the gunports as I go along, are you aiming for a natural finish or a painted one?, you might be able to get away with a bit of filler if the wales overlap the filled part, if your painting it doesn't matter, fill to your heartss content.
Cheers Steve..

Hi Steve
I'm going for painted finish but I don't want to use filler too much. Even after painting I want wood texture to show up little bit.
I've used just little bit of that white filler just to check it how it looks like after sanding.
Only one row of ports needs framing now and I'm sorted :)
Hopefully next 4 isuues will arrive this week :)

Hi there again Cool

I've managed to get some more work done on my Victory. I've got both sides sanded (it needs some filling and fine sanding but I'll do it later) and gun ports framed.
Entry ports are not ready yet but I'm currently working on them.

As you will see on the pictures I've done some "kit bashing" BigGrin on the deck. I'm getting ready for another deck planking (Issue45) but because of the cutout in the hull I needed to put some details there. It's not finished yet though.
I'm not going to leave original deck planking, but I'm going to glue on top of it 3mm planks as I've done so far. It looks much better to me.

Please have a look

Very nice Tom, you have really adopted this build as your own.
Exceptionaly smooth lines at the bow/front, I see you have not followed the build instructions in regard of the placement of the hull planking, but nonetheless looks very very goodLove .
The way you have planked the lower part of the hull is very similar to the way I finished my last build, this time I am trying to emulate the official build, but either way it's the end that counts.
Many congratulations on an interesting diary..BigGrin

Hi there

I wasn't here for a while but I was busy.... building BigGrin
I'm on the stage of rigging the guns and I didn't like the size of blocks supplied in magazines so I've ordered some 2mm ones. I think they look great with this canon. Have a look yourself.

Hi Tom! Cool

You're right the 2mm block are more in scale than the 5mm one's supplied.
