I think back in the day - '60's - roll bars were generally 2" dia tube. I had a series 3 Lotus Elan that I wanted to use on track and the roll bar was 2". I was told it was standard.

Hi I have just looked at the exploded view and part numbers of the GT40 Chassis and Bodywork and there is no mention of a roll cage in the cars from the factory so I won't be fitting mine to the model. Even though private teams may have done Just thought I would mention it

Hi everybody, I'm also a little concerned with the roll bar (or lack of) in this kit. The lack of any roll bars at all in photos of early cars is rather worrying but I have included images of 1075 during a track test on the 12th of December 1968 following its win at Le Mans that year being driven by Innes Ireland who had experience racing earlier GT40`s before retiring and going on to work with Autocar magazine, you can clearly see the roll bar where you would expect to find one above the seats in front of the bulkhead but also there is nothing around the front of the roof. I have also included images of 1075 in modern day trim with plumbed in fire extinguisher presumably to comply with F.I.A. regs. but still no sign of any other roll bars. I have found images of GT40`s with roll bars above the windscreen and a horizontal bar in the centre but they are not 1075.

There is a firm in the East midlands that produce GT40s using the original drawings so are built as they were in the 1960s they are built so true to the originals that they carry FIA papers which make them eligible to race in historic races. the name is Gelsco Motorsport Ltd if you search that on the internet and click on builds and from the drop down menu select GEL W003 GT40 P1076 ( which I have sat in at Goodwood a few years ago )and see the build of the of the chassis from start to finish. and no sign of a roll bar. But that is not to say that since the sixties with regulations changing they have been retro fitted. In 1985 I joined the GT40 replica owners club which had just formed later became known as the GT40 enthusiasts club and one of the guest speakers was a man by the name of Patrick Murphy he was the Works manager of Ford Advanced Vehicles at Slough where they produced the Gt40s and when he finished his talk we were offered a copy of the original GT40 production schedule and assembly methods including flow charts / time sheets. The reproductions of these documents included much more information on the builds and they are signed copies, and no where in those papers is there any mention of roll cages.
