Aye Aye Sailors, Just a quickie question really. Issue 44 and the build diary of Tomick mention that you may need to sand the front face of the dolphin so it fits neatly against the stem reinforcements. The thing is, when I put my dolphins next to the bow and also put them alongside the stem reinforcements, I find that they don't need sanding down to fit the end of the reinforcements because they are quite the opposite, they are in fact smaller and thus the ends of the dolphins don't even reach the end of the reinforcements. Is this a major problem? I'm unsure. I know I got to do stems curving up that attach to these dolphins, so was thinking it may cause issues with that. I can't really fix it though as it's the only way the holes in the stem reinforcements meet up with the gaps already present in the stem. Not my picture, It's Tomicks, can't figure out how to upload image on here, but I post it here for reference to what I'm talking about. As you can see in this version the dolphin end exceeds the end of the stem reinforcement whilst mine doesn't even meet it :(

SIMPLES!!!!!
If you leave what you have done, as is, then fine.
If you feel that the reinforcement needs adjusting, then do it.
From the photograph the reinforcement is only slightly out, you could level up the ends by carefully carving away the excess with a SHARP knife. But foremost don't get to worked up about something so small, as it happens from the picture available the small excess amount is easily chipped away. By the way welcome to the forum (I don't recognise your ID) have a look at all the builds on show, I'm sure there's something there to guide you.

Have you butted the 'dolphins' up against the wooden 'plate' that has to be glued to the beakhead (the ones with the slots that line up with the holes), if you are over the top of them it could explain how they appear to be short?

Hi Rossy, I had the same problem, and then I noticed that I didn't line up the holes in the stem and the hole in the stem reinforcements completely - I decided to remove and refit the stem reinforcements (which needed about 1mm trimmed off it to fit) and the dolphins. The red outlines in the pic below shows the holes which I'm talking about

jeff Thanks I think this was the issue. I was just being a plonker. It's no longer too short
