I seem to be getting involved in rescuing bits of junk these days. This one isn't a totally lost cause though. It's the Tamiya Datsun kit that someone had made a start on and then gave up. I'm guessing it was a present to a child as the assembly work and some paint really is astonishingly bad. To make matters worse, the body had been put back in the box on top of the partly assembled floor and then I imagine something pretty heavy was stored on top of it all for some time. Hence, the body is now quite twisted, one screen pillar extremely bent and broken so the roof is low on one side and the front end of the body is squashed out of shape. I'm hoping hot water and a good bit of manipulating might sort it out. It was sprayed blue and while still sticky, left in an incredibly dusty place. First job will be to strip the old paint off... roymattblack attached the following image(s):

I remember this kit when it first came out (and when I was a lot younger!). I think there was also a rally version that was red with a black bonnet and lots of sponsors' logos on the sides?
Looks like Datsunother restoration you'll enjoy building Roy? (Pun intended!)

Thanks for looking in chaps. I've stripped off the blue spray paint - no idea what it was but it's taken 2 days soaking in oven cleaner to remove it. The white plastic is now a mottled orange-brown but that doesn't matter. Repairing the broken areas, straightening the twists and de-seaming next... roymattblack attached the following image(s):

Many thanks to you chaps following. I've repaired some of the broken areas on the body and now added the front light and nose sections. WHAT a nightmare. Considering this is a Tamiya kit, the parts location and fit is TERRIBLE. There are NO location pins, tabs or points for attaching the front parts. It's ALL just 'hope and see'... After a lot of fettling and trial and error, the front parts are glued in place. With a bit of filler and sanding it all got a coat of grey primer. We'll see how it goes. roymattblack attached the following image(s):

A small update here. I've attached a picture of the car I'm going to build - to a degree. I'm not going to go insane with total accuracy on this as it's not even the same model of 240Z. I just want to make the little old wreck look more presentable. To that end, I've modified the kit nose parts and added the simple chin spoiler. Some paintwork on the body parts next and then to get on with the rest of the build. roymattblack attached the following image(s):

Thanks for looking in and the comments chaps. The body has now had numerous coats of orange although it looks more red in the pictures. There will be a fair bit of masking to do in a few days when the paint has hardened off so I can then spray in the bronze panels... roymattblack attached the following image(s):

Love the colour, that was a surprise, for some reason I was expecting the same colour it started as (obviously far better though) Ken's the name modeling's the game.

Thanks for looking in Ken. I fancied a scheme that's a bit 'outrageous'. A large amount of masking here and some coats of grey primer in prep for the bronze bits. Here's hoping... roymattblack attached the following image(s):
