Hi Budgie
My swift is also supposed to be painted white on the lower hull too, but iv decided to use danish oil only on mine as its a nice wood used for the planking. On your model the mahogany will come up a treat if you do this aswell. But if you decide to paint then 2/3 coats of sanding sealer and a good sanding after will prepare the surface for a white undercoat ect. Hope this helps.
Regards
Andy

hi bodge, seems a shame to paint her,but if you do decide to paint.I will go into a little more detail, prepare the hull thus,a good fine sanding 600 grade,a thin coat of white undercoat to seal the grain, then a good rub down with 600 sand paper, this is to check for high spots, fill or sand until no more high spots, which means that all the paint has been removed, and every thing is smooth and level,(no high spots ect.then another coat of thinned down undercoat.sand with 800 grade wet & dry done wet.wipe down and when dry apply a normal coat of undercoat, another wet and dry session, then top coat, lotta work,if you want the finish you need tlc, elbow grease and a bit of patience.#83 Posted : 01 December 2010 10:07:38
