I'm going to start a build of this one very shortly. I have the full kit so there won't be any delays in the build as I await parts - I already have them all. I'll look at individual stages to see what upgrades or extra's can be - or need to be, added. A quick perusal of the build guides shows it to be a highly detailed kit so it should be fun. The Cosmo is nice, in that it was initially released as a sub, then offered up as a full kit. This offering was only as a complete kit, so it’s been inventoried as such.
Nowwww, whatcha gonna do to bling it?

Well, a little start today while I'm waiting for paint to harden on the big Lotus 72, and the Lola Spyder. All straightforward to begin although the parts for the 1/2 scale engine absolutely would not go together without a deal of filing and sanding. Looking nice already Roy and that 1:2 scale Wankel engine looks like it is going to be mighty impressive when finished! I like the look of this car and was mildly tempted when it was first released as a partwork but didn't sign up in the end?
I'm sure you'll make a very good job of the build Roy and I'll be watching to see what you add to it along the way!

Thanks for peeping in Kev. I've really rattled on with this one today and actually, there's not much to upgrade - yet... I did repaint the gearbox pieces and I've added connectors for the starter motor to add wiring but so far, it's a great build. roymattblack attached the following image(s):

Great to see you sinking your teeth into another iconic build Roy, am sure by the time she's done she'll be amazing. Its also good to see another Mazda build on the forum, hasn't been that many shown to date and I look forward to seeing this one progress..... Regards Alan

Many thanks Alan. I must admit it's a really good, fun build. I was warned by another member of the FST that parts of the build are frustrating, in that frequently you are told to assemble parts, and then later in the build you are told to take them apart again. With this in mind, I've watched out in the instructions where it says in small print 'fit these parts temporarily' - or similar, when building the engine and engine bay. In those instances I didn't fit the parts at all and kept them aside in a small box. As the engine was fitted into the engine bay, those parts are finally put in place. A strange way to compile instructions. Along the way I've painted and hidden many screw heads, de-seamed and repainted parts, added wiring, hose clips and made clutch and brake pipes from solder wire that are fitted to the slave cylinders. The 1/8 scale rotary engine has been assembled easily and is almost complete. roymattblack attached the following image(s):

Many thanks for peeping in Kev. Yes, I'm rattling along with it as it really is a joy to build. Amazingly detailed and it goes together so well. Mind you, the constant disassembly of previously built parts is annoying. Also, I genuinely DON'T understand why little packs of screws or tiny parts are supplied in one pack but not needed until MANY packs later. Anyway, I've repainted almost all parts so far. Underneath has all been given a spray of matt black and a misting of brown. Just about the only parts I'm not going to paint are the body pieces. Beautiful work as always Roy! A simple black respray can really add a lot to otherwise “toy-like” looking parts. And I’m glad to see this kit getting some attention, as I was really on the fence about subscribing when it was still offered as a subscription. That engine (both scales) really intrigued me. And the details do look on par with what I expect out if a kit of this calibre. If I wasn’t already up to my eyeballs in subscriptions, it would have been a no-brainer and I’d be building this one too -Dustin

Thanks for looking in chaps. I have to say it's an incredibly detailed kit, easily on-par with the Countach. The multitude of wires all connect easily and actually have 'hiding places' so the body really does just drop on unlike the Mustang where the wiring fights you all the way. It's almost complete now and I'll almost be sorry it's finished. A really enjoyable project. roymattblack attached the following image(s):
