Hate Cameras, Just a light sanding, and my nailing looks crap (well on camera)  , not great though. The planks are stuck firm.  Regards

Looking good now there. Starting to take shape now. Keep up the good work..  On the bench 1/350 Revell Tirpitz Platinum Edition (Pontos PE and Wooden deck) plus extra Eduard PE set and extra MK1 door sets.

Hi
Could you please advise how you have decided to fix your planking on the hull - have you just glued were each plank contacts a rib or have you glued right along the edge of planking strip so that it fixes to the next strip added.
this has been one of my concerns with single planked ships as I am worried that when cutting out the gun ports some of this planking may "shift" if its not been glued to its neighbour.

The best way and strongest is to Glue along the length of the planks and onto the rib. So when you come to cut out the Gunports there will be plenty of strength. I also where i can get to it and if not being stained, brush some glue behind the planks to be cut for the ports. It may not always be easy to get glue behind but if you can it helps.

Your freeboard planking looks really nice Robert! I love the lines!
I've recently moved into my first new house so haven't had a second to do any work but now I think I'm ready to get back to work!
Quick question if you don't mind, can anyone tell me what parts they received in issue 5 and 6? My parts don't seem to match the instructions.
In part 5 I received only a bundle of basswood planks for the freeboard planking and the inside of the bulwarks. However, the instructions for issue 5 tell me to construct the "cradle" but these parts weren't present.
However, when I received installment #6 I got only the pieces for the cradle. The instructions for issue 6 are for planking the hull with the sapeley planks...no sapeley planks in installment 6 though!
Is this the same for everyone else...or is there a mistake with my order?

Forgive the Pun but I'm in the same boat, that's exactly what I got, don't know why I got all them extra planks for as I DON'T KNOW WHERE THEY GO????.  And yes my instructions are all back to front!, and the instructions are all crap, with me it's mostly guesswork. if I have any tips I will let you know. PS got any pic's you guys. PPS thanks for the complements. Regards

What I've been doing is following James pics on picasa of the build he did to find out if things where looking in the right place(Yep the insructions are Crap..). The extra planks youv'e got sound like they have given you the ones for the inside of the top deck.

I see you've had the same confusion with the instructions that I have...
It specifically says to not trim the excess of the planks at the stern, but in the next set of instructions they have been trimmed and shaped! Are you going to wait until you have the instructions and parts for the grand cabin before doing any shaping? That's my plan I think.
I'm having some trouble with my first few planks at the stern actually. Did you have to do any shimming to frames 14 and 15? At the moment my planks don't get anywhere near them and I'm worried that if I try and bend them to lie along these frames they will point inwards and not allow room for the cabin? I hope that makes some sense!
