Second Floor Walls and Wallpaper, Parts for Moominmamma’s Dressing Table.
Picture 1 shows the contents for this issue.
Note: I will be splitting this issue into two parts. The Dressing Table assembly will be assembled in the next part.
Assembling the Walls and the Wallpaper.
Take the second-floor wall frame from issue 55 and using wood glue, fix the two wood panels “J” and “K” to the frame. You will need to hold these in place with clamps and leave overnight to dry thoroughly before proceeding with the opposite side, picture 2. Once dry, take the panels “I” and “H” and apply them to the frame using wood glue, picture 3. Again, allow this to dry overnight. Once the assembly is dry, you will need to sand the side edges smooth ready to apply the wallpaper, picture 4.
Take the assembly and temporarily insert the wall into the second-floor floorboards and using a pencil, drawer a line up the wall from the centre of the hole in the floor as shown in pictures 5 and 6. This will allow you to align the wallpaper for this side.
Take the wallpaper as shown in picture 7 and apply them both to the wall as shown in picture 8. Turn the assembly over and using a sharp craft knife, carefully cut out the excess wallpaper from the door frame, picture 9.
Do the same to the opposite side by applying the one sheet of wallpaper and carefully cutting around the door frame, picture 10.

Issue 56 Part 2

Second Floor Walls and Wallpaper, Parts for Moominmamma’s Dressing Table.
Note: This is the second part of issue 56 where we assemble and paint Momminmamma’s dressing table
Take the drawer parts from issue 57, picture 1 and assemble the two drawers so the white facing sides are on the outside. Sand the assemblies down as shown in picture 2.
Take the remaining dressing table parts from issues 55 and 56 along with the two drawers and paint all the parts with white paint as shown in picture 3. Once these have had time to dry, paint the parts pink. I used a mixture of white paint with a little red, dash of black and yellow, picture 4.
Apply glue to the right edge of the back, the part with two tabs facing up, and fix into the recess of the right side. Now apply glue to the bottom and fix in place as shown in picture 5. Now glue in place the middle shelf and the left side, picture 6. Glue the tabletop so the bevelled side faces upwards, picture 7. Allow this to dry fully.
Glue the four legs to the underside so the convex side of the leg face outwards, picture 8.
Apply glue to both the mirror supports and attach them as shown in picture 9. Now take the mirror and take off the protective film on the mirror side, picture 10. Place the mirror into the back of the frame and once in place, put some quick drying glue around the edge to hold in place as shown in picture 11. Insert one of the pins into the side of the mirror support and push it through so the pin goes into the hole on the side of the mirror frame, picture 12. Do the same to the other side.
Note: because you paint the assembly, the paint may hide the holes. Use a small pin or micro drill to open the holes back up.
Apply quick drying glue to the inside of the drawer assemblies and place the metal handle through the holes, picture 13.
Pictures 14 and 15 show the complete assembly. That also complete issue 56.

Second Floor Wall Frame
Apply wood glue to the rail “A” making sure the longer rail is at the bottom, then attach rail “C” as shown in picture 1. Apply the second “A” rail as shown in picture 2, followed by the “B” rail, picture 3. Now take the two cross members “C” and “E” and secure them with wood glue, picture 4.
Take the final “A” rail and secure “D” to the bottom as shown in picture 5. Attach rail “B” to the other side of “D”, picture 6, followed by part “L” to the centre of the assembly, picture 7.
Once these have had time to dry, attach both assemblies together along with the last rail “F” as shown in picture 8. Now attach the vertical strip, also shown in picture 8 and attach it to the side. Make sure it is fitted with the bevel following the frame.
Picture 9 shows the complete assembly.

Second Floor Walls and Wallpaper, Books and Sorry-oo the Dog.

Assembling the Books
This section is relatively easy, just very fiddly and be careful of sticky fingers with all the glue you are about to use.
First, take the book cover print and the cardboard part, picture 2, and carefully cut out the paper book covers. I used a sharp craft knife for this rather than scissors. Then cut the cardboard along the lines so you have 15 equal pieces. Take 2 cardboard piece and glue them together. Repeat this process another 4 times so you have 5 thicker cardboard pieces and 5 thin pieces. You will get a better finish if you sand and round one end of the cardboard pieces, so the spine of the book cover wraps around it, picture 3.
Take the orange books and wrap all five around the single cardboard pieces with PVA glue. Then take the red and blue covers and wrap those around the double pieces, picture 4. Picture 5 shows them in place in the bookcase.
Assembling the walls and wallpaper.
Take the frame assembly you did in the previous issue and attach the “H” panel with glue, holding it in place using mini clamps, picture 6. Allow this to fully dry before proceeding with the next panel.
Then attach the “I” panel in the same way, picture 7, followed by “K” and “J” panels on the opposite side, picture 8.
Take the wallpaper for the landing area and carefully place it over the frame with the facing “H” and “I” showing. Cut out the door area as you have done in previous issues, picture 9. Repeat the process with the remaining wallpaper on the opposite side, picture 10.
Now glue the wall assembly to the wooden floor using wood glue as shown in pictures 11 and 12.
Pictures 13 and 14 shows the complete assembly with the books in the bookcase and Sorry-oo the dog.

Assembling the Books
In this issue we assemble some more books in exactly the same way as before in the previous issue. Just take your time. I have also decided to make the remaining books from the next issue 60, so all the book assemblies are in this section. Again, these are relatively easy, just very fiddly and be careful of sticky fingers with all the glue you are about to use.
Tip: Once the covers were glued in place over the cardboard parts and allowed to dry, I used a rough sand file and sanded the ends. I sanded only in one direction, turning it over and sanding it in the same direction. This opens up the cardboard slightly to give a fuller volume to the book. I then painted the ends with an off white/cream colour, which then shows the separation of the cardboard, giving the appearance of paper. The complete assembly of the books can be seen in pictures 2 and 3.
Now for the assembly of the thick volume book, the one with the pages in.
First, carefully separate the cover of the book using a sharp craft knife. Fold the remaining pages in a concertina as shown in pictures 4 and 5. Now carefully cut into 3 strips along the lines, making light strokes with a craft knife, picture 6. Glue the white/blank sides of the concertinaed strip as shown in picture 7. Picture 8 shows the result. Now do the same to the other two strips. Join the three sections together by applying glue to the blank pages as shown in picture 9.
Once dry, squeeze the pages tight and sand around the edges until smooth, picture 10. Fold the cover you separated earlier and apply glue and attach the inner pages to it, starting at the spine of the cover. Hold the book together with a pair of tweezers whilst drying.
Pictures 11, 12 13 and 14 show the book complete. Note, I have placed a 5 pence piece to show just how small the book is, bearing in mind that this is the largest of the books.
Finally, I glued the books into the bookcase, although it doesn’t tell you to do this, it makes it easier to move around without the books falling out. I have also placed Moominpappa’s tram model in the bookcase.
That completes the book section. Pictures 15, 16 and 17 show them all in place.

Ceiling Beams, Books.
Picture 1 shows the two halves of the ceiling panels glued together. As before, I have painted the ceiling white, picture 2.
Picture 3 shows all the ceiling beams that need assembling.
Take the beam “A” along with beams “K, I and F” and fit as show in picture 4. You can see the letters on the beams showing in what order to fit them. Take beam “C” and fit beam “L” as shown in picture 5, again the letters of the beams show which way round they fit. Now fit beam “E” in the slot of beam “L” you fitted to beam “C” and fit beam “J” to both beams “C & E” as shown in picture 6. Finally, fit Beams “D & H” as shown in picture 7. You should be left with two small beams “B & G”.
As before I have calved notches into the beams to give them that aged look, before painting them with a dark brown colour, picture 8.
Now glue them in place on the ceiling as shown in picture 9. Note, the ceiling has marks to show their positioning.
