Hi, looks like you might be trying to bend it to fit the lower plank, let the plank take its own natural curve and use stealers or fillers to fill the gaps, to see these look at some of the other build diarys. i had a few planks that were not the same width throughout the length so be aware of these and use them for small sections.
hope this helps

thanks for your help,I am trying to make it level with the lower plank, but there are 2 frames that are lower than the rest and cannot seem to get it level until I put fillers at the back to bring it level and seems to go out of wack with the frames, hope you understand that.BigGrin BigGrin

Hi a lot of people used balsa fillets inbetween the bow and stern formers[then sanded down to profile] as this helps with getting the shape to these sections corect and adding more glueable area. I do realize this might be a bit late in your build to mention this but keep at it and it will all come fine

I think I managed it, to a fashion anyway,I will just horse on as they say,I needed a bit of patience for that part I have to admit.
I see what you mean about the fillers in between the frames,I seen that a bit too late as you say.
thanks mate.

You'll need some droppers in there very soon as well, as I found out to my cost.

Hi sandness, keep at it, you will get there and you will always learn from your mistakes. Here is a picture of my victory. It was the first wooden model I tackled and I made plenty mistakes on that ,can you spot any on it cos they are still there. It is about 6 yrs old now.

from your photograph, she looks ok, now it will start to give gaps as you let it take the natural curve of the wood, this is where she will require fillers(as i found out) keep it going ( we are all in the same boat - as to say) - hopefully be up your way in the summer - and would like to see the final model... best of luck.
alan

also look at johns shambles - he states he is having problems - but she looks good to me

Hi All,BigGrin BigGrin
I need some of your expert opinions,I would like you to look at these photos,I am waiting for my electric plank bender and I want to make sure of everything before I continue. Have I done enough fairing on these parts,I was thinking of putting some balsa wood like I have seen on other builds.
Thanks in advance.

Your stern frames need more work unfortunately, the outer piece of play shohould be flush with the keel, you have a groove from the looks of it....sorry.

BigGrin Hi Peats
i think play should be ply m8,so it should say your outer piece of ply should be flush with the keel

I think you should check with mrT , as I think it looks ok. There should be a groove for bow sticky out bit to fit in.

look at the official build diary.

Just to be clear, it is the stern you are talking about NOT the bows.

The false keel need to be flush with last rib and the rib needs to be flat not curved in towards the keel.

My bad...it should indeed have said ply & not play.
Saint...the groove you are referring to is at the bow of the ship & has to be created with your planking, the groove I am referring to is at the stern where the last frames are added,a groove is left between them the thickness of the keel, the frames need to be sanded down so that the whole stern is flush with the keel thus eliminating the groove...hope this has cleared up any confusion.

There is a lot to take off, in fact the rib almost disappears.
