Hi All, BigGrin

Here we are with an ET update. I received pack 7 today, so have an update ready.

This pack covers issues 27 - 32, where this update #27 covers the next stage of the neck mechanism gearbox.

I will not follow the same line as the instructions, as I believe they are not protecting the gearbox parts as well as they could. Purely due to not applying grease in all the places where I think it should be. I will explain as we proceed.

Parts supplied.....Pic 1. You will also need the assembly from Issue 26.

To start, bring the stage 26 assembly to the table. Pic 2. Now look at the points indicated where the new gears will sit in Pic 3 and see where I have applied a small blob of grease from the end of a cocktail stick. The gears will spin, sat on these three places and there is no mention of applying any grease. Blink

Now position the first shaft 27-02 as in Pic 4. As all the gears 27-01 are the same, treat them as such when you fit them into the gearbox and apply a small amount of grease to the smallest cog, Pic 5. Then fit the first cog 27-01 as per Pic 6.

Fit the next spindle and cog (don`t forget the grease on the small gear) as in Pics 7 and 8, then repeat for the third spindle and gear as shown in Pics 9 and 10.

That`s it for this update, Pic 11.

See you soon for Issue 28, where we will add the motor to the gearbox.

Hi All, BigGrin

Time for the next update with Issue 28. ThumpUp

In this update we will prepare and fit the motor in the gearbox.

Parts supplied.....Pic 1. You will also need the gearbox assembly from the last update, Issue 27.

The first task is to fit the worm gear to the motor. NOTE: The square end of the gear goes onto the motor shaft first. The gear is a very tight fit on the shaft (it is meant to be, so don`t loosen it by drilling the gear centre). The gear will only go on to the shaft if it is straight with the shaft and when the gear is correctly placed the motor shaft should be level with the outer end of the gear.

See Pics 2 and 3 for the gear in situ.

Apply some grease to the worm gear, Pic 4 and position it in the gear box case as shown in Pic 5. The gearbox will be finished in the next update, Issue 29.

See you all then.

Hi All, BigGrin

Time for issue 29 of the ET build, where we complete the Gearbox that`s used in the neck mechanism.

Parts supplied.....Pic 1, you will also need the gearbox assembly from issue 28.

We start with the box part 29-01 and the bearing 29-02. As with the previous bearing it is a tight fit in the box part, so must be pressed into place straight to the hole it fits in and to the base of the part its pressed into. Pic 2.

Now bring in the assembly from issue 28 and place the new cover over the gears. Pic 3 and then fix the halves together using 4 x P-TP screws, Pic 4.

The gearbox now has a sprung roller tensioner fitted to the outside.

Take the spring 29-04, gently ease the open ends apart and fit the roller 29-03 between the open ends, Pic 5. Now fit the spring over the post of the gearbox as shown in Pic 6 and secure the spring using the washer 29-05 and a P-TP screw, shown in Pic 7.

That`s all for this update, Pic 8 and 9 show the completed gearbox. Store this away carefully, because the next updates cover the standard base.

Take care and see you soon. BigGrin

Hi All, BigGrin

Back with ET and an update for Issue 30. In this issue we start the construction of the standard supplied base.

Parts supplied.....Pic 1. You will also need the leg assembly from issue 19.

Place the base 30-01 on the table (right way up) and insert the double battery terminal in the orientation shown in Pic 2.

Now position the leg assembly from issue 19 as shown in Pic 3, then (whilst holding the parts together) turn them over and fix them together using 8 x P-M screws, Pic 4. Note: To help with alignment I put all eight screws in place before fully tightening them.

That`s all for this update. Pics 5 and 6 show the assembly as it now is. In issue 31 we start wiring the base, so see you soon.

Hi All, BigGrin

Here we go with the update for Issue 31 of ET, where we start wiring up the base.

Parts supplied.....Pic 1. You will also need the base from Issue 30.

Now for reasons beyond my comprehension, the manufacturer has decided not to label or mark the wiring/plugs in the parts supplied. So with a fine permanent marker, mark the plugs as shown in Pic 2: "A" for the auxiliary power socket, "B" for the wires from the battery box and "S" for the power switch.

To get started, remove the nut from the auxiliary power socket 31-03, Pic 3. Then feed its plug through the circular hole in the back face of the base, Pic 4 and replace the nut over the plug and thread it onto the inside of the socket, Pic 5.

Now take the switch 31-02 and pass its plug through the oblong hole in the base, next to the socket, Pic 6. Then carefully press the switch into place, till it clicks firmly in place, Pic 7.

I have shown where the wires will lay and be fixed in the next update in Pic 8.

So that`s all for now, Pic 9. Keep the IR sensor and the screws safe until the next update (last one for this pack).

Hi All, BigGrin

Here is the update for Issue 32 of ET, where we will be working on the wiring of the base.

Parts supplied.....Pic 1, you will also need the unused parts from Issue 31...Pic 2 and the base section also from issue 31.

The first thing to do is fit the IR sensor 31-01. This fixed to the underside of the base in the position indicated in Pic 3. Position the IR sensor squarely into the hole in the base and fix in place using 2 x P-TP screws. Next feed the plugged end of the IR cable through the hole in the base and retain the cable under two cable clips 32-02, fixed by 4 x P-TPC screws, all shown in Pic 5. The plugged end of the IR cable should emerge through the leg assembly, as shown in Pic 6.

Working on the underside of the base, retain the cables from the battery box/switch and auxiliary power socket with two cable clips 32-02 and 4 x P-TPC screws. Pic 7.

Turn the base the right way up and the battery cover 32-01 into the base, Pic 8 and when fully in place press the end of the cover down to click it into place, Pic 9.

That concludes this update and pack for ET, Pics 10 and 11.

See you again when the next pack arrives. ThumpUp ThumpUp
