welome along mike, hope you enjoy all your build, no doubt at some point you'll doubt yourself, but keep plodding along, the magazines really do take you step by step, as long as you read the stages properly, and for all the silly mistakes that i'm sure you will make, the forum is always here to help you put them right, enjoy it, and i'm sure in a years time you will look back on things and say to yourself, how have i managed to build this.
good luck

Hi Mike,
Welcome to the Victory forum.
The best advice I can offer is take your time and enjoy the build, it really is great fun.
Like you this is my first ever wooden ship build but with all the advice so freely given by all the members it is surprising what you can achieve.
Happy building and post some pictures to let us know how you progress.

Thank you everyone for your words of support.

I haven't been completely idle. I have constructed my 'dry dock' and the rib sections (that i have, still missing the last 2 from issue 14 that i have been informed was sent out on the 16th).

I have up to issue 32 so have quite i bit to keep me entertained. Here is my first photo of where i have got up to.

Looking great MIke!!...looks as though rib 15 is slightly out..maybe its just the way the picture is taken...most of us have had problems with rib 15? If it is a problem you will find that there are a number of posts on here on how to get round it mate...Keep the pictures coming.

Thanx jonny.

I noticed that to. I haven't glued anything yet so i will be able to correct. It doesn't show in the photo but the bottom of the keel doesnt lay flat.

A little filling out here and there should be fine. I hope Blushing

Yes, I used a couple of strips of spare planking 2mm x 1mm on the bottom section of the rib to bring it up level with the bottom of the false keel and sanded it level, and when you come to planking, you may have to adjust the top of rib 15 so as it is in line with the others. Some of us got in a right flap over it (including me) when the problem first surfaced, but, with the help from fellow shipmates, it was solved in next to no time.

Johnny is right. I thought that since the parts were supposed to be 'Laser Cut' that they would all fit perfectly, but that seems not to be the case.

Once I got over that after thinking it was my fault in some way, every thing was fine.

The key will be in the fairing. Don't be afraid to put pieces on as they can always be rubbed down again later. In fact I used a complete plank on one rib, it was so far out and in the end, I used packing pieces on most of the ribs.

Rub down, check, fill, check, rub down ... is the order of the day.

Best wishes,

John
