Navy’s new F35 jet to make UK debut at the Farnborough Airshow in July.
British people will see the aircraft which will give wings to the Navy’s future carriers for the first time this summer.
Never before has the futuristic strike fighter – the first ‘fifth-generation’ jet to be flown by British pilots – been on display outside the USA.
It will be flown at Farnborough Air Show for a six-day appearance – the first four days to the aviation and military industry, then on July 19/20th to civilians, though it will miss the start of the show..

Fleet Air Arm and RAF pilots have been flying the F35 in the USA since last year, while ground crews and engineers have spent several years determining how to maintain an aircraft which is two generations more advanced than the Royal Navy’s last jet, the legendary Harrier.Tomick attached the following image(s):

Hi Tomick, It will be nice to see her when she's finally built.I live just up the road from Rosyth but i can't see anything of her when i cross the Forth bridges. Is she the largest ship the UK has ever built? It would also be nice if in the future they allowed the public onboard for alook around. Stu.

Indeed it is the largest warship ever built for the Royal Navy. Once commissioned, I would think there will be opportunity for the public to visit when in port.

That really is a sight to behold. The logistics of running something like this must be awesome. Just looking at that video and I thought the presenter was standing on the dock - the carrier is massive. Let's just hope we have the skilled people to operate the thing with so many cutbacks its usually tends to be the experience they let go. Must say they have managed a lovely paint finish on it - not a run or blemish in sight. Wonder if it's some sort of new paint along the lines of the forth bridge that will not need re doing for a number of years. Very interesting to see and had lost track of time - seems like only yesterday they were laying down the first parts. Wonder if airfix might grace us with a suitable sized kit - or even (should I dare) a deagostini part work. Oh go on you can do metal skin on wooden airframe  - you know you want too. While most of the media focus was on what was happening in the skies, equally-important lessons were being learned in the hangar courtesy of a maintenance team headed by Lt Cdr Robin ‘RTB’ Trewinnard-Boyle.
“To get up close and personal with the jet operating on board the Wasp was the highlight of my Royal Navy career,”
said avionics expert POAET(AV) Paul comemings.
“This aircraft is awe inspiring and will definitely impress when it eventually operates from the UK, being a real asset for our defence for a great many years to come.”
He was one of two RN senior ratings – the other was POAET(M) ‘Ronnie’ Corbett – and an RAF armourer, Sergeant Paul Parkinson, who joined Lt Cdr Trewinnard-Boyle on the Wasp.
They not only carried out maintenance work on the two F35Bs embarked, but tested loading and unloading dummy weapons in its internal bomb bays (for stealth reasons unlike the Harrier, all the weapons are carried inside the aircraft, rather than slung on pylons beneath the wings).
"From a maintainer’s viewpoint, some things we learnt directly were how easy it is to manoeuvre the F35B around a relatively small flight deck, and how we can best do our job of launching, recovering and maintaining the F35B at sea,”
explained Lt Cdr Trewinnard-Boyle.
The officer says 'exciting times lie ahead' with further testing – including launching the jet from a ski ramp erected at the airbase.
He was involved in the final days of the Harrier as the senior air engineer aboard HMS Ark Royal in 2010, so he’s delighted to be at the heart of the rebirth of fast jet carrier operations.
“I loved the Sea Harrier and Harrier dearly, and they hold a very special place in my heart,”
he says.
“It was a great feeling to be at the beginning of seeing F35B operating at day and night from one of her natural environments – a flight deck.
“And it was another milestone on the way to making F-35B and HMS Queen Elizabeth a war-winning combination.”

In essence yes. However, the F-22 Raptor cannot be exported under American federal law, and is not identical to the F-35 Lightning, which contains technology from the F-22 but is designed to be cheaper, more flexible, and available for export.
Out of interest, the RAAF determined that the F-22 was unable to perform the F-35's strike and close air support roles.
