Hi everyone, i wish i knew about the site a year ago when i first started building the McLaren model, it would have been a lot less stressful that's for sure.My model looks pretty good but it hasn't been easy.This is the first time i've built such a large scale model, usually i build small 1:24 scale F1 cars.I think the thing that's made it hard is knowing what glue to use.The glue i'm using right now is Revell Contacta Professional but it doesn't seem to bond very well.The superglue i've been using (Rocket Rapid) leaves vapour marks on nearby surfaces that won't come off & damage the finish.Also, i tried using an ABS glue (Plastic Magic) but found it dried so quickly that it wouldn't bond the surfaces.I had to put so much on that it looked awful.Please can anyone let me know what glues they are using on this model & help me out.Thanks everyone.

First of all, welcome to the forum! The most popular glue seems to be evo-stick pvc pipe weld extra strong for the plastics. After that is superglue for the metal bonding. I use regular superglue but some are using a gel version. There are quite a few posts on what to use and loads of helpful hints and tips! Ta Ian

Hello and welcome.
I use Loctite super glue control or Loctite power flex control (on metal) for an instant bond.
As the car is already painted I didnt want to chance anything else as I know plastic weld can leave white marks.

I wouldn't use ABS pipe cement. It's a bit thick and not really suitable for modelling. Try Tamiya Extra Thin, if you can get it, or Plastruct Plastic weld. They are both a very runny liquid (more runny than water, if you get my meaning) that you just paint onto the joint with a fine brush. Hold the parts together, paint the glue onto the join, you don't need a lot, and hold for about 10 seconds. Capillary action draws the glue into the joint and it works very quickly. Handle gently for a few hours for the joint to set solid. Use glues very sparingly as they can disolve the painted finish. The silver is particularly susceptible. iv been useing both loctite and revell loctite for metal parts ant rev for the plastic parts amd loctite for the metal to plastic parts have fun building
