Issue 83 - Fitting the balusters. We are advised to paint these little b****** gold before fitting them one at a time to the stern gallery BUT when we get to issue 90 We are advised that if we have opted for the painted finish then these little b******* need to be overpainted yellow ochre. This will be a fiddly and time consuming exercise, surely it would be better to have painted them their final colour prior to fixing to the model or am I missing something. You may want to keep this in mind if you have not yet reached this stage On a seperate note in issue 90 we are also fitting the pin rails to the deck. As we have yet to assemble and fit the second of the Carronades I am leaving the fitting of the foremost rail next to the fore mast until such time as the second Carronade has been fitted. This will leave better access to that part of the desk when fitting the second Carronade Current Build:- [color=blue]Stash Avro Lancaster (Full Kit)plus some extra issues I picked up at a good price [color=blue]Built:- Norman Catapult by Mantua,Roman Catapult by Mantua,HMS Victory,HMS Victory XSection,Focker DB1,Bismark,English Carronade Titanic Lifeboat,American Civil War Gatling,Hummer,Sopwith Camel F1,Occre Jupiter ,OcCre Wagon, Latina Arab Dhow, Eaglemass Orrery OcCre Rogers 119 [color=red][color=red]RB7,OcCre Missippi River Boat, Model Airways Fokker DR1 OcCre London L>C>C 106 Ugears Scrambler, Ugears Hexapod Explorer UGears Off-Road Vehicle

Hi Gil, my diary build for 83 says...For the natural version, paint or spray the balusters gold, and for the painted version paint them yellow ochre.

Hi Mr T When you say your build diary do you refer to the on line diary as I have reread the Assembly Guide in issue 83 Fitting the balusters 1 - 4 and there is no mention of any change for the painted version. Might be useful for a note in the Mag for those who do not have access to the on line build/forum Gil Current Build:- [color=blue]Stash Avro Lancaster (Full Kit)plus some extra issues I picked up at a good price [color=blue]Built:- Norman Catapult by Mantua,Roman Catapult by Mantua,HMS Victory,HMS Victory XSection,Focker DB1,Bismark,English Carronade Titanic Lifeboat,American Civil War Gatling,Hummer,Sopwith Camel F1,Occre Jupiter ,OcCre Wagon, Latina Arab Dhow, Eaglemass Orrery OcCre Rogers 119 [color=red][color=red]RB7,OcCre Missippi River Boat, Model Airways Fokker DR1 OcCre London L>C>C 106 Ugears Scrambler, Ugears Hexapod Explorer UGears Off-Road Vehicle

Gil The exact paragraph copied below from my/the offical build diary for 83.... "Fitting the balusters - Paint coats of clear glue over the strips between the windows of the rear and side gallery panels, which will help the paint to adhere over the acetate. Allow it to dry thoroughly, then paint the strips with black paint and allow to dry. Fix some masking tape to a scrap of wood sticky side up, to hold the balusters in place and make it easier to paint them. For the natural version, paint or spray them gold, and for the painted version paint them yellow ochre, (only apply very thin coats, to avoid leaving a lip of paint around the edges of the parts when you remove them from the tape)." I noticed this info had been missed from the mag, hence why I highlighted this in my diary.

I have put this pic on this post because of a mistake in mathematics, there could be more, but this is the story.the yard sling is said to be cut at 400mm.with a tail of 250mm. and 350mm. long, errrrr that adds up to 600mm.I think, not 400mm. so watch out when you get to that part.also tie the yard sling and the jeer falls BEFOE sewing the sail onto the yard. Current builds: SotS, USS Consitution, San Felipe, D51 loco, HMS Surprise, RB7, Arab Dhow, Jotika HMS Victory Completed builds: HMS Pickel, Thermopylae, Mississipi river boat, Mary Rose, Cutty Sark, San Francisco II, HMS Victory x5, Titanic Lifeboat, Panart HMS Victory Launch, Hachette Titanic, Virginia Schooner, Endeavour Longboat. http://www.model-space.com/gb/
