Stage 31 - Contains an undercarriage upper strut casting & fittings, ribs 15 & 16, the pitch control casting and a length of tube.

Prepare and label ribs 15 & 16 as before.

Cut and shape tube lengths as before in the following lengths:
9mm, 11mm, 12mm, 13mm x2, 14mm, 15mm x2, 16mm x2, 17mm and 18mm

Then add them to ribs 11, 12, 13 and 14 at the points indicated, note the side of the rib they are placed on.

Temporarily locate ribs 11 - 16 into the corresponding slots in the wing frame.

Remove any burrs from the castings, then prime and paint black, the upper strut (masking as shown) and the strut ring.

Prime and paint the pitch control lever as shown, then glue it into position in the cockpit.

Apply a little glue to the undercarriage strut and slide on the sleeve. Glue the 'C' clip into the slot at the end of the strut as shown.

Slide the strut ring along the lower strut keeping its square projection in line with the square projection just above the tyre.
Fit the pin of the 'C' clip into the groove of the upper strut, slide lower strut down as far as it will go, then add the spring at the top, then add the strut cover (its hole at the top) so that its internal slot aligns with the pin of the 'C' clip, then secure it in place with a screw.
Engage the strut ring at the bottom of the assembly, engage its internal pin into the slot of the strut case and glue into place.

Gently compress the strut to check that the damper is operable.

That's it for this stage, carefully store the landing gear.

Future parts sets/stages:

32 - Contains the landing gearbox & control lever castings and fittings.

33 - Contains the flap rear spar, flap parts, truss and tube.

34 - Contains shield plates, left wing flap, length of rod and LED lamps.

35 - Contains the left wing frame, ribs 17 & 18, trusses, landing gear housing plates, length of tube, screws, formerplates and ribs 6.5 & 7.5.

Stage 32 - Contains the landing gearbox & control lever castings and fittings.

Check the castings for burrs and remove where necessary.

Paint as shown, or leave as bare metal the 'A' & 'B' castings, undercarriage lever and toothed bar castings as indicated. Rather than use masking tape for the internal part of casting 'A' which is quite awkward to mask, I found it far easier and quicker to use blu-tack.
I placed an amount of blu-tack into the internal part of casting 'A' to seal both ends, then added the 'B' top. Then primed with clear primer and painted as one, then removed the blu-tack.

Glue and fit the undercarriage lever casting to the cockpit framework as shown.

Glue the spacer and gear into the slot of the strut arm as shown, push them as far as they will go as shown.

Fit the previously assemble strut into the gearbox and secure with a screw, then add the toothed bar as shown, then add the gearbox cover.

Adjust the strut movement as shown.

Now remove ribs 8, 9 and 10 from the left wing frame.

Locate the four mounting holes in the gearbox, and fit the landing gear assembly from below the wing frame into the space between ribs 4-6, and engage the gearbox as shown at the noted points then secure with a screw in the top left hand corner. (If you want to secure the gearbox with a second screw in the bottom right-hand corner, you may need to remove a 4mm section of the aft leg of rib 8, which then allows the rib to fully seat).

Fit the machine gun through the gap in the main spar between the slots of ribs 9 & 10. Slide it back so that the circular projevtions at the rear of the asembly fit into the holes in the rear spar of the wing frame. The ribs either side of the gun will secure it in place.

Re-fit ribs 8, 9 & 10, positioning the LED wires as shown.

That's it for this stage.

Future parts sets/stages:

33- Contains the flap rear spar, flap parts, truss and tube.

34 - Contains shield plates, left wing flap, length of rod and LED lamps.

35 - Contains the left wing frame, ribs 17 & 18, trusses, landing gear housing plates, length of tube, screws, formerplates and ribs 6.5 & 7.5.
36 - Contains a wing frame, ribs 19 & 20, trusses, tube, formers, machine gun body and screws.

Stage 33 - Contains the flap rear spar, flap parts, truss and tube.

Preparing ribs 15 & 16 - Cut and shape six tube lengths as follows: 8mm, 9mm, 12mm and 15mm, and two 13mm lengths.

Cut and shape six truss lengths as follows: 9mm, 11mm, 13mm, 16mm, and two 14mm lengths.

Remove ribs 15 & 16 from the right-hand wing frame and glue into place the tube and truss lengths as shown. Then replace the ribs into the wingframe.

Making the left wing flap - Position the flap rib sheet as shown in the step, and locate the joins between the ribs and the sprue, then score along the join between each rib and the sprue. As you remove each rib, place it on a numbered sheet or stick some tape to it with its corresponding number. Ensure that you flatten anything that remains of the cut edge using a fine file.

Tape the flap rear spar onto the flap base, aligning the slots of the spar with the lines on the base. Make sure that the indicated are in line with the ends of the base.

Position flap plate (B) as shown in the step with the shaped point facing upwards. Identify the notches along
the edge, as this will make it easier to fit.
Place flap plate (A) on top of the ribs, using the step photo and the inset image as a guide.

Hold the assembly, and apply glue to the front of each rib where it joins the flap base, up to the red dotted line shown in the diagram.
When the glue has set, carefully remove the flap spar and plate (A) from the flap assembly and apply glue to both sides of each rib, along the red line in the diagram.

If you have chosen a painted finish for your model, spray the parts of the flap with metal primer then paint 'aotake blue'. For a bare metal finish, spray with clear lacquer.

Position the flap assembly as shown and identify the slots circled in red. Test-fit the main spar in these slots. You may have to bend the spar slightly to fit.

Fit flap plate (A) back into place, using the diagrams as a guide. Once it has been re-fitted, glue it into position.

Test-fit the flap strip across the assembly, in the corresponding grooves of the ribs. It should fit within the width of the flap, then glue it into place.

That's it for this stage, the flap will be located in the next stage.

Future parts sets/stages:

34 - Contains shield plates, left wing flap, length of rod and LED lamps.

35 - Contains the left wing frame, ribs 17 & 18, trusses, landing gear housing plates, length of tube, screws, formerplates and ribs 6.5 & 7.5.

36 - Contains a wing frame, ribs 19 & 20, trusses, tube, formers, machine gun body and screws

37 - Contains ribs 21 & 22, fuel tank half, machine gun and the aileron bulkhead.

Stage 34 - Contains shield plates, left wing flap, length of rod and LED lamps.

Remove any burrs from the castings.

Cut a 45mm length from the 1mm rod, then use pliers to flatten 2mm in from one end, and smooth the opposite end using wet and dry paper or a fine file. This rod is be used to secure the flap later in this stage.

Follow the painting steps for your choice of finish.

Fitting the first lamp - Locate the two circled parts on the light housing (A). The LED with the shortest wire (A) should be placed in the area, while its wires should rest outside.
Holding the LED and wires from the last step in position, apply glue to them to hold in place, then apply more to the inner edge of the light housing and fit the other side to it.

Repeat with the remaining LED (B) and the other lamp housing.

Locate the shaded area on the flat part of lamp assembly A. Using the step photos as a guide, test-fit and glue it into place on the inside of the cockpit, close to the undercarriage control lever.

Fitting the left (port) wing flap - You should read over these steps a few times to familiarise yourself with the fitting process. (I opted to remove and paint the fuel tank aotake blue before fitting the flap).

Cut the hinges from the sprue. Notice that the hinges with oval holes are slightly different sizes (identified as B1 & B2). Fit B1/B2 as shown into the inner slot holes in the flap. Then glue the two remaining hinges into the slots on top of the flap.

Locate ribs 5-8 on the left wing. Test-fit hinge B-1 of the flap on the left-hand side of rib # 8 and hinge B-2 on the right-hand side of rib #5.
Holding the flap down, slide the round end of the rod made earlier through hinge B-2 and the hole on rib #5.

Keep sliding the rod through the holes in ribs 6, 7 and 8 and hinge B-2. Once through the hinge, pull so that the flat part is up against rib #5 and then crimp the end of the rod, as you did previously, so that it can’t slide back through the holes of the hinges or ribs.

Test the flap by holding it in line with the wing and test that the rod won’t come free and that the flap moves in and out, as shown in the step.

Fitting the engine oil pipes - Cut the rubber tube supplied previously into seven 10.5mm lengths. Then test-fit one length between points 'a' and 'b' shown in the step. Adjust the length if necessary and then glue into place.
Repeat for the points between the remaining cylinders.

Preparing the shield plates - The shield plates are very thin metal and need to be handled carefully. Paint the shield's black or leave as bare metal, then cut the shield plates from the sprues and file flat the remaining burr.
Locate the area on each cylinder head as shown, then glue each shield into place on the cylinders, with the exception of the central cylinder between the two exhaust outlets.

That's it for this stage, carefully store the assembled LED 'B'.

Future parts sets/stages:

35 - Contains the left wing frame, ribs 17 & 18, trusses, landing gear housing plates, length of tube, screws, formerplates and ribs 6.5 & 7.5.

36 - Contains a wing frame, ribs 19 & 20, trusses, tube, formers, machine gun body and screws

37 - Contains ribs 21 & 22, fule tank half, machine gun and the aileron bulkhead.

38 - Contains a fuel tank half & frames, and the machine gun shell ejector casting.

Stage 35 - Contains the left wing frame, ribs 17 & 18, trusses, landing gear housing plates, length of tube, screws, formerplates and ribs 6.5 & 7.5.

Prepare an label ribs 17 and 18 as before.

Cut and shape six lengths of tube: 7mm and an 8mm length, plus two 11mm and two 12mm lengths.

Cut six lengths of truss: 7mm, 8mm, 12mm and 13mm lengths and two 14mm lengths.

Then glue the truss and tube lengths onto ribs 17 & 18 as shown, and then them into place on the right (starboard) wing.

Place all the metal parts from this stage onto cardboard and spray with metal primer for a painted finish, or clear lacquer for a bare metal finish.

Spray the wing frame, landing gear housing and ribs 6.5 and 7.5 with aotake blue paint to match your chosen guise.

Lay out the three pieces of the former, then take the central part (A) and glue it to one of the side parts, engaging the areas, as shown. Once dry, glue the remaining side to the assembly.

Turn the former so the open side is facing up and identify the grooves highlighted by the red arrows. Test-fit in the area of the cockpit as shown. Holding the former in place in the frame, apply glue to the joints.

Locate the hole at the top of the former and the projection on the remaining LED light housing 'B', previously assembled.
Test-fit the lamp in the former. Apply glue and re-fit the light, making sure that you have set the angle so that it is pointing at the instrument panel

Fitting the landing gear housing - Support the left wing on a raised surface, with the landing gear hanging over the edge so nothing is below it. Unscrew the landing gear lock so that it swings out.

Locate the slot between ribs 7 and 8 and test-fit rib 7.5, with the slot in the rib facing up.

Fit rib #6.5 in the slot between ribs 6 and 7 as shown.

Fit rib # 8 in place on the main spar. Its shape may need to be adjusted if it doesn’t fit flush with the landing gear box.

Fit rib #7 (front) in the second slot of landing gear housing (A). Locate the highlighted slots in ribs 4 to 7.5, then carefully slot landing gear housing (A) into the slots identified.

Slot landing gear housing (B) into the forward slots in ribs 4 to 8. Then apply glue to the opposite side of the red-shaded area of landing gear housing (B), then hold the two landing gear housing parts together while the glue dries. Once dry, raise and secure the landing gear again.

Fitting the left wing frame - Locate all the holes circled on the spars of the left wing, and the corresponding punch marks on the wing frame. Also make a note of where the LED is and where it will appear on the frame.

Using a 1mm drill bit, drill holes in all of the punch marks on the wingframe. Then place the wing frame over the corresponding holes. Before screwing it into place you may need to adjust the position of the LED so that the unpainted part of the lens is exposed through the slot in the wing frame.

That's it for this stage.

Future parts sets/stages:

36 - Contains a wing frame, ribs 19 & 20, trusses, tube, formers, machine gun body and screws

37 - Contains ribs 21 & 22, fule tank half, machine gun and the aileron bulkhead.

38 - Contains a fuel tank half & frames, and the machine gun shell ejector casting.

39 - Contains ribs 23 & 24, valves, cylinder castings, gun magazine & bar casting and flap bulkhead.

Stage 36 - Contains the upper wing frame, ribs 19 & 20, trusses, tube, formers, machine gun body and screws.

Prepare and label ribs 19 and 20 as before.

Cut and shape six lengths of tube: single 5mm, 6mm, 9mm and 11mm lengths and two 10mm lengths.

Cut six lengths of truss: 6mm, 7mm and 13mm lengths and three 12mm lengths.

Using the step image to determine the placement of the tubes and trusses on ribs 19 & 20 and glue them into place, then locate the ribs into the right-hand (starboard) wing frame.

Locate and remove any burrs on the gun casting, then store for later use.

Cut a 33mm length of rod and smooth the ends, keep this aside for the wing tip assembly.

Assembling and fitting the former - As in step 8, page 134, arrange the three pieces of the former as shown. Glue the central part to a side part, then glue the remaining side to the assembly.
Turn the former so the open side is facing up and identify the grooves highlighted in the step. Test-fit the former in the area of the cockpit as shown, feeding the lead from the LED through the former. Then glue the former in place.

Fitting the left wing tip - Measure 2.5mm from one end of the 33mm rod made earlier, then bend it at a right angle, using pliers, (be careful not to overbend as it may snap).

Loosley fit rib #26 in place on the wingtip as shown, with the two wingtip hinges projecting through the rib.

Take not of where the wing tip hinges should be positioned, then slide the rod made earleir, through the hole in the main spar, then the front hinge of the wingtip, and then through the rear hinge and finally the rear spar. When it is in place, turn the bent end so it faces upwards.

Pull the rod tight at the oposite end whilst keeping the bent end pointing upwards, then bend the end upwards so that both bent ends are in line. Then rotate the rod so the bent ends face downwards.

Position rib #26 into place on the end of the wing assembly, then glue it in place, avoiding the hinges, rod and wiring.

Fitting the upper wingframe - Locate all the holes circled on the spars of the wing and the corresponding punch marks on the wing frame. Also make a note of where the LED is and where it will appear on the frame.

Drill a 1mm hole in all the punch marks circled in red in the steps, and use a 0.9mm bit for the punch mark circled in green.

Test fit the frame and ajust the position of the LED so that it aligns with the lamp view hole in the frame, then secure the frame in place with screws.

That's it for this stage, carefully store the gun casting.

Future parts sets/stages:

37 - Contains ribs 21 & 22, fuel tank half, machine gun and the aileron bulkhead.

38 - Contains a fuel tank half & frames, and the machine gun shell ejector casting.
