Alan, Thanks for turning the pages, my worry about the main Victory buckets is that you need about 21 to go across the poop deck, now I reckon they must be about 3mm tapering down to about 2mm! or do you think just to make 21 that fit across but out of scale ? Trev Hi Trev, I have had a play with bits of scrap etc. I do find softer wood easer to work as you would expect, but also easier to make a mess off. Harder wood gives you some advantage if you are doing tight shapes like banister spindles etc. I am of the opinion, at the moment, that if you can get away with lime do so. As for your buckets I would shape them first then bore the centre after. UPDATE: Victory Cross Section. Completing the Orlop planking. Today I completed the centre section of the Orlop decking,I found that I had to fit a false deck because when it came to cutting the planking it was so fragile it cracked, so the only way was to fit a false deck and stain the under side, the next job was to draw the outlines with a pencil using a new blade I marked over the pencil lines, I then drilled small holes around the markings and removed the wood with a knife and file. Next try the mast and elm tree pump castings for position and adjust for misalignment all seemed to be ok.  Centre Section To be planked but I had to make a false deck to allow me to make small cuts without splitting the wood.  This picture shows centre section with the wood removed.  This Shows the Elm-tree-pump castings in place.  Elm-tree- Castings and main mast in place. Next adding the frames to the pump well and painting white. UPDATE: VICTORY CROSS SECTION. 080315. Making Orlop Chests. In this short update I am showing a few pictures of the Orlop chests which are custom made to fit between the riders. Also I will be making a few seaman's chests in a variety of styles and sizes, on these I will add the brass strip to make the metal bands for the lids.       Thank you for looking Regards Trev.
