My Wife suggested that I log my hours on the SOTS, which got me thinking. I have recently finished the Caldercraft Endeavour which as taken me 2-3 years and I reckon I have spent over 500 hours on her. The Kit cost around £270, add £30 of consumables and £40 on essential tools (I have reduced this as I still have the tools, so they still have a residual value to add to my next model). This works out at 65p an hour, by far my cheapest Hobby ever and I've had a few over the years. The SOTS could easily work out cheaper still when I add in all the Forum fun

When you put it that way you're dead right Andy, not only do the tools last for many models but when they do eventually wear out (like my damned soldering unit) their replacement cost is often lower than the original outlay was! (The first soldering station was abour £20 four or five years ago, its identical twin just cost me £12.99 on e-bay!) Plus of course the hundreds of hours of being kept off the streets and all! Happy building on your SOTS First wooden ship: The Grimsby 12 Gun 'Frigate' by Constructo Second: Bounty DelPrado Part Works Third: HMS Victory DelPrado Part Works 1/100 scale Diorama of the Battle of the Brandywine from the American Revolutionary War Diorama of the Battle of New Falkland (unfinished sci-fi), Great War Centenary Diorama of the Messines Ridge Assault Index for the Victory diary is on page 1

I always think about those lovely prisoner of war models, built from old bones and hair for rigging, using a few cobbled together hand-tools.
