When I saw the adverts for HMS Sovereign of the Seas, I decided to do a little looking into model ship building in general before deciding to commit myself to a long term project.

In the course of my investigations, I came across a photo build log of the Artesania Latina modelkit of the HMS Surprise made by 1st time builder James Choi. I spent the next 2 hours going through every picture of his very detailed build marvelling at how he was taking the kit and using the film Master and Commander as well as reference pictures taken of the HMS Surprise docked in San Diego to bring his model as close to life as possible. He even makes a new ship figure-head as he is not happy with the look of the stock part.

I decided that this photo build would be a major asset and inspiration to all the HMS Surprise builders so I contacted him for permission to link his build here. Permission was promptly granted (email available on request) and I am pleased to present you with the links to his build and blog.

Hope you enjoy them as much as I did...
