Hi everyone In issue 3 in relationship to the cannonade the tip section says in regards to drilling holes use an Archimedean drill and drill bits No 62, No 65 and no 72
I have bought the drill along with the drill bits but mind are in metric. Could someone please tell me what NO's 62,65 and 72 are in metric please
Thanks in advance, looking forward to the issues
Pam

Pam, I've no idea what size of drill bits the numbers refer to, my drill bits are in metric too, however it's not an exact science as the eye pins can be slightly different widths depending on the manufacturing tolerance, so I'd start off with a 0.6mm bit and if this is too tight then re-drill the hole with a slightly wider bit. I'm afraid there's no point me telling you what size I used because I didn't use the eyepins supplied, I used No. 14 fishing hooks with the hook end cut off as it looked a better scale than the supplied eyepins. Thanks for that tip Capt Stedders Regards,
David

Pam Hi Pam For future reference: 62 = .9652mm (1mm bit) 65 = .889 mmm (.9 mmm bit) 72 = .635 mm (.6 mm bit) Just in case you thought I knew these off by heart, I googled and found: drill chartHowever, I agree with David, if you have a set of drill bits, then choose one as close to your eyebolts as you can get. Good luck Mike T

Just get yourself some cheap balsa wood and try them out, drill, insert part you want, if its too large change down to a smaller one, once you have the correct size on the Balsa then use on your kit.

May sound stupid but what I did was to construct a small stand out of model off cuts, drill a hole in the stand using the smallest of drill bits, mark out the size of the drill bit you just used on the stand in nice large letters in bold black ink stick your drill bit you just used into that hole and do the same with the next size drill bit up, no fiddling about and the drill bits are kept visibly handy nearby on the work surface Current Builds: Deagostini HMS Victory: Deagostini HMS Sovereign of the seas. Completed Builds: Del Prado: HMAS Bounty: Hachette: RMS Titanic: Del Prado: Cutty Sark...
