a question for tomick

i noticed from your official build that even the great master had to fit a small sliver of wood to neaten the gap between the planking and the grating.

i was wondering, would it make any difference if i did the issue 138 planking before making and fitting the grating. that way i could make the grating to fit the available gap. from looking at the pictures in 138 it would only be a matter of 1 or 2mm, which i don't think would be too noticable.

Hi Bob,

Its as a result of the very slight tolerance variance in planking strip width.
I see no reason why you cannot do it the other way round, and lay the planking first then size and fit the grating to fit the gap,and at the most the grating will be approx 0.5mm-1mm wider at most.
