I'm glad to see that the military forum is getting some more traffic, so I decided to add some. I am fairly new to building AFV models, I'm on my 5th, but I thought I would post this one. I am a painter so I am used to oils and I wanted to use this model as a means to practice. The simple green base gave me a nice 'canvas' to experiment on. I don't like to use black when painting as I find it too flat, so I decided to tone this model with dark purplish shades made from burnt umbver and French Ultramarine. varying the mix allows all sorts of subtle brown to purple to blue hues. I think it sets off the green nicely, anyway you be the judge. The finish is still glossy but when it's dry I'll give it a coat of matt then on to some weathering with pastels. I'm waiting for the post to bring some crew figures to complete the model. John

Very nice indeed John!!
I too am new to AFV modelling and I have to say that I am finding it very interesting and very enjoyable. I think more of the modellers on here should give it at least one go maybe to see what they are missing?? I am glad that things are starting to improve in the Military section here on ModelSpace and your decision to share this one with us is greatly appreciated and certainly adds to the forum - can we see some others maybe?
I too am a painter and I know exactly what you mean about never using black, far too harsh, much better to mix the opposites on the colour wheel to achieve the darker tones than to use a lifeless commercial black and far more realistic!! Not many people who don't paint, will know that you can make a perfectly good (and more scale like) 'Black' by mixing the three primary colours in perfectly equal amounts!!!
Well done John!!

Thanks for all the encouragement. I'll certainly be looking to add some more builds here in time. Kev good to hear from another painter, in my opinion it is the painting that makes AFV modelling such an interesting subject. We get to paint figures, subtle metallic finishes and even whole dioramas some times.

So the Cromwell is finished with a couple of Tamiya figures added. Once or twice every winter I get great morning sunshine in my study so I had to use the occasion to photograph the Cromwell with one of its rivals. Now to finish my Sig 33 John

Denissimo Thanks for your kind comments.
Jase. Thanks also. I have found that the secret is to know when to stop weathering.

Very nice indeed John and you are right with the weathering - as with most things "less is more" as they say?
Great job on the figures too - keep up the good work, loving what you are doing sir!!
