so I've made some more progress on my little Dio. First I prepared the basic modelling on the dio base, using Hydrocal. I then worked up the ground details using various bits of horticultural bits and bobs. The tree is a natural twig with branches added from more twigs and picture hanging wire. The river is from Realistic Water but will take some time to pour small layers and let dry for 24 hrs each time. I also got another figure painted, just the hands and some weathering to go. I also found that Dios tend to take on a life of their own so I think I might add this little guy and call it a 1943 Spring Eastern front. More to come. John

Looking great! Can't wait to see the finished article.
Is the armoured car going to be part of the diaorama?

Wilfy
Thanks for looking in. I'm thinking about including the spahwagen in the dio. It was taken from the Russians and is correct for spring summer 1943. It just depends if I have enough room to make the arrangement work.
All the best John

Thanks for the comments gents. I am getting towards the end now, still lots to do. I have started to pose all the components to get a feel for the end product. What do you think of this layout. Nothing is fixed yet. All comments and suggestions welcome. John

Looks fantastic!
Can I ask a couple of questions, do you paint your flesh areas in oils or acrylics? When it comes to eyes at 1/35, do you add iris & pupils? I struggle with figures, especially eyes, bought a set of eye decals (haven't tried them yet) but the 1/35 ones are minute!
Again great work, a pleasure to follow your build
Thanks
Wilfy

Gentlemen Your comments are much appreciated, still some ways to go with this but I think the major bits are coming together. Wilfy as far as painting is concerned I block in the face with Vallejo acrylic Medium Flesh, all the rest is done with oils. I've also struggled with painting eyes, sometimes it works out sometimes not. My technique is to use oil paint to paint the eye generally off white, that is white with a blue-grey tinge. I then paint the iris using a dark, usually blue and brown mix, applied with the tip of a tooth pick. I let this dry then line the eye with a thin line of umber with a little burnt sienna. This all sounds very methodical but in reality I get it wrong quite often and have to restart or in some cases a simple dark line works for an eye at 35th scale. Hope this helps John

Nem I have just two more figures to complete then stick everything down for final weathering. One of the figures should be finished today so I'll post him a little later. Final job should be after the weekend.
Thanks for the interest, regards John

I have not tried a dio as of yet, bit daunting, and figures are not my forte!!! I have tried but they usually end up looking like something that just got brought back from the dead!! But I love seeing a well presented dio, if they are done well they come to life!! I will be watching closely sir!!

So the end is getting closer. Here is the detailing of the Spah wagen. This was a comandeered Russian vehicle, so I have given them an extra ID flag just in case. I have added the fourth figure to the Sig 33 and added some stowage. Last figure to go then the final stick down. John

Nem
For what it is worth all the tarps are scratch built. On the top I used a form of rice paper that is used in China for caligraphy, the rest are made of milliput.
