I have never built a ship before and I have noticed that the deck on my HMS vicoty is not a straight line- I imagine it should be straight and parallel to the waterline. My deck seems to dip in the middle. I have checked the the false keel with a straight edge and it is true so I was wondering was this something I did wrong when fittine the decks? The decks seem to follow a V-Shape where they dip in the middle and are higher at the bow and stern. Can anyone point me in the right direction as what I might have done wrong with this? I am thinking of srippng it down and salvaging what I can and ordering back issues to get the problem corrected. Thanks in advance if you can helpl

Hi Crusty,
There should be a gentle bow from end to end as the deck is not flat from end to end. Possibly post up a photo of your build just to be sure that nothing major is going on.

I'm relieved to find out there is meant to be a 'slight' bow in the deck. I will post a few pics up just to make sure my bow is not too steep. Recharging the batteries of my camera so it will be a while before I can get pics up.

Here are the pics. I have lined a straight edge up so that each end is positioned at the highest point of the deck so that you can see the bow.

Thats good news now I dont have to start taking it apart. I'm trying to figure out the planking now if the first layer follows the line of the deck then the plnaks will be curved all the way down the hull?

crustybaps no need to worry at all,as the instructions and official build is VERY clear on what line the planking takes, and please READ the instructions very carefully as working with bamboo is new to us all,and make sure you DRILL the holes for the brass pins,.07mm is about right, and don't hammer them right in.you need to cut the heads of after.if you don't drill you may split the plank. Current builds: SotS, USS Consitution, San Felipe, D51 loco, HMS Surprise, RB7, Arab Dhow, Jotika HMS Victory Completed builds: HMS Pickel, Thermopylae, Mississipi river boat, Mary Rose, Cutty Sark, San Francisco II, HMS Victory x5, Titanic Lifeboat, Panart HMS Victory Launch, Hachette Titanic, Virginia Schooner, Endeavour Longboat. http://www.model-space.com/gb/
