Good evening everyone, I'm confused  in the magazine, the keel braces are fitted flush to the top of the keel, yet in Tomick's build he has them fitting flush to the bottom of the keel! Who's right? Graham

Hi DD Checking with other builder diaries, everyone else seems to have positioned them at the top. But does it really matter?

I think i have answered my own question.
Further on in tomick's build diary you can see it flush with the top!

The exact position doesn't really matter, but you don't want them flush with the bottom as they will interfere with the plank next to the keel.
Two solutions if you have put them too low down. If you used PVA, apply a hot iron to the brace. This will soften the glue and you will be able to prise the brace off. Plan B is simply to sand the lower corners off !

I think they are talking about the 2 strengthening pieces that are attached to the side of the keel pieces to improve the joint along the keel, rectangular bits that are glued to the joining keel sections.

Thanks Andy, but... At the risk of sounding terminally dense, isn't there only one keel? None the wiser  *Does anyone realise just how painful it is to have quite a large ( Normal) vocabulary only to be totally befuddled at all these nautical terms? Schnellboots on back burner

Sorry Capt should have made it clearer, issue 3 of mag described as bracing pieces, the rectangular pieces to join keel parts 1 and 2 to strengthen the joint between the two

There was a last minute change to the step photo after my photo was taken, the keel braces should be flush with the top of the keel, though it makes no difference.

I like stedders don't know nautical terms either.
I read this and that and think, What they on about. I am new to ship building and these terms are confusing ..!!
Please could anyone translate ship terms to newbie terms every now and again..

I can tell you what a Pitot Tube on a Plane is ..Lol Only just worked out what a mouse is on a ship.. Not the one I'm clicking,,On the bench 1/350 Revell Tirpitz Platinum Edition (Pontos PE and Wooden deck) plus extra Eduard PE set and extra MK1 door sets.

thats a good start for terms Mike, but I have found untill I get to the part of the ship that has an odd sounding nme it is for me at least quite impossible to learn them all.
Maybe I/we could start a thread that list's terms used during the progress of our build, just thinking aloud. I know there are 100's of terms but maybe the most common and if people want to add as they go then so be it, sort of a complete forum effort.
Only last night I was reading the rigging order and came upon this -
