Hi all,  I have just received issues 3-6, yep a newbie build  . Now my question is this about the mounting of the rear wheels/rear block mounting eyelets for the carronade. In the mag diagrams(issue 4 page 13) it shows the rear block eyelets in front of the pivot wheels, but in the official build (#5 Posted 4 April 2010)in a photo it shows the eyelets for the blocks mounted behind the pivot wheels. I would have thought that if the wheels are behind the blocks they could run over the ropes and cause a serious problem for the gun crew. Hi Delboy I've just checked the diagrams of the carronade in my Alan McGowan Victory book and the result is as follows: The rear blocks that you mention are for the traversing tackle which basically moves the carriage rear left or right to aim the weapon. In the diagram the anchor point for these blocks is directly over the little rear wheels on the vertical side of the carriage. The block is attached to a ring bolt via a metal hook which means the actual block is about one and a half 'block lengths' in front of the ring bolt. In operation there would be no problem with the carriage running over the ropes as the ropes on whichever side the carriage was moving towards would have to be taut literally pulling the carriage towards them so they would be up off the deck away from the wheels. The tackle shown in Karls super photo is the recoil tackle, used to run the carronade back to it's firing position. Strangely, that tackle doesn't appear at all in the diagrams! Hope this helps Robin Robin, Thanks for your reply, I may be missing a point, but for the moment please stick with me as I am a bit confused  . I understand what you mean by the traversing blocks  .In the photo in the official build as previously mentioned, those blocks are mounted to the rear of the pivot wheels, now, if you look at the overhead elevation of the carronade on page 12, issue 4, the pivot wheels are at the extreme rear of the carriage behind the block mounting eyelets. Hi Delboy Unfortunately I only got the first issue of the Victory so I don't have the pics you refer to. I'll try and draw up a diagram from my ref book over the weekend (so I don't break any copyrights) to illustrate how it looks in the book. That should show it much easier than describing it in words. All be it in the distance it does show the block mounting eyelet at least above the wheel/maybe slightly behind, certainly not in front as per the mag. Wow  it, Absolutely brilliant, many many thanks Robin. That is most appreciated mate, have had to cure another problem with the basic build of the carronade with the parts supplied, in that the forward mounting block was only half the thickness it should have been in comparison with the depth of the rear wheel assembly. Used a bit of scrap to double the thickness of the part and now the long base plate will sit level to the deck. No Probs Delboy, once I start up the old Corel Printhouse I tend to get carried away with it! You should have seen my Carronades from the DelPrado; 2 piece casting consisting of the barrel and the entire carriage - no forward pivot plate and no elevation screw gear! You DeAg boys get spoilt! Hi Delboy Thanks for the thanks!  The Corel PrintHouse is very easy to use indeed, it's actually a very old program now, my copy came with my very first PC (Time Computers, no longer in business now!) way back in 2000. It's quite a well constructed piece of software in two parts, PrintHouse and PhotoHouse. If you look at my build diary of the DelPrado Victory, all the photo montage pages are made up with the Printhouse and the photos can be altered (cropped to size, brightness altered etc after they have been added to the Printhouse page simply by double clicking on the photo which sends it straight to photohouse and then back again. There are much more up to date versions of the Corel out there, I think they update nearly every year or so but this oldie does pretty much what I want. The only bit I sometimes have difficulty with is drawing curves (that aren't elipses) which is why I made the carronade ends square! I should think that you can probably get hold of this program (or one of the updated ones) via ebay (very cheaply too). When my original PC went down and had to be reset I lost all the pre-installed MS Word software but managed to replace it with 'OEM' discs from ebay for about £5(OEM = bundled software pre-installed and not allowed for sale until that package has been superceded). 13 years should be long enough to be superceded! Have a look out there, mine was Printhouse Millenium Edition but any Printhouse would be much the same I would think. Good luck and I'll look forward to seeing your 'smasher' complete!
