The new book I recived today The Art Of Rigging as I mentioned in another post - http://forum.model-space...sts&m=7441#post7441
I mentioned the book was started in 1794, written by David Steel, well I found a web site that has this in its original form, seems all above board so go have a look as we will have to get stuck into the rigging at some point, you may aswell get familiar with names and things. http://www.hnsa.org/doc/steel/index.htm

Good init! just going throught the book here and comparing the rigging order for my Bounty, dont know why I didnt get the book before.

As always I was looking for a term used in the riggng list for the Bounty - Cablelaid, 4 strand, wormed, parcelled & served - for preventer stays at the foot of the foremast, then it says 'eye & mouse' Is 'eye & mouse' a way to belaying to or a knot of sorts? any ideas..

Ah yes, superb mike, but to put that in the location on the bounty..mmmm, now that gets me thinking.
Yes I can see how that works now from the preventer stays, runing from mainmast to Foremast and down to the foot of the foremast, the eye and mouse will run direct to the crows nest area of the foremast.

Great find there Zep,
I was wondering how to do some of the knots on my San francisco 2, The diagram shows how to make a collar etc which makes it easier for me to get it looking better then just a knot. On the bench 1/350 Revell Tirpitz Platinum Edition (Pontos PE and Wooden deck) plus extra Eduard PE set and extra MK1 door sets.

Hi Magpie After doing some research on the rigging I discovered a lot of model making tend to not go for all the fancy knots used on ships, due to the scale, it seems some do but if the thread you are using is so small are you really going to see and reap the benefits. Then on the other hand the larger the thread the better the real knot would look. Bring it on -- yet more old books to read on-line. Perhaps by the time I have some rigging to do, it will all fit into shape. Following on from Colin's comment about size, obviously there will be limits on how detailed we can be, but the mouse could be represented by a large knot in the rope by the loop perhaps? BTW I got your PM Colin but guess what your mailbox is full!!  Mike T

I know this ship, thats the Syren, I did start this scratch build some years back, designed by a guy called Chuck, very helpfull bloke. I still have the full instructions and plans but the shop where I used to get my wood shut down, hence my Syren build shut down, for now. Thanks for the pdf, never can have to much info on rigging.

Just glanced at Magpie's pdf and guess what?? The author describes how to use 'polymer clay' to simulate a mouse. Modelled round a piece of stiff wire and then threaded on the stays. Is Bounty big enough for that Colin? If no polymer clay we might have to resort To Stedders green stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just Started Rigging SanFran The A/L instructions don't show the knots but I gather from all these pics etc, The one I want is the collar and mouse for the mast end and the collar for the other. I don't know any terms of what this or that is called. Look at this pic to see where i'm rigging. Its the last pic I've already tried one piece. Thanks. Here is my first attempt at a mouse and collar on my san francisco 2.
