Hi all. Ive decided to post my model.Yes I know about the white stripes on the front wheels being in the wrong grove but what the hell. The close up off the fuel hatch is to show the jumper link that turns the led on/off. I had the model on a shelf under led downlighters for about a week waiting on my case arriving.During this time i noticed some sort off crystaling on the silver paint around the air intakes. Ive posted a close up off the cockpit which shows this and you can only notice in certain light conditions. So be aware of this as over time I could see it getting alot worse if not protected by a display case. Just a few mods to do so that the engine cover sits correctly. Ive enjoyed building this model and have learned alot from the experts on this forum. If any other DeAgostini model comes onto the market that I have an interest in I would have to get involved not just for the model but for the tips and advice found on here. So a big thank you to you all. Kindest regards D.Patterson

A nice build Dave and glad that you found it an enjoyable experience and will be taking on future projects if they appeal! Not quite sure what has happened with the 'crystallising' of the silver paint? My immediate thought would have been a reaction to the constant heat from the downlighters you have had above the car, but then I wouldn't have thought there would be any significant heat build up from LEDs as opposed to normal bulbs would there? May be a reaction between the silver paint and any clear coat, if you have applied one? Sometimes if a top coat isn't particularly compatible with the paint underneath, they can dry at different rates and usually cause cracking of the top and sometimes, the underlying layer but crystallising is not what I would normally expect to happen unless the constant light has exacerbated the problem?
The best way to display any model is as you say in a display case. Keep it away from direct heat sources (such as above radiators!!) and sunlight and in a stable environment with regards to temperature inside the case. Widely fluctuating temperatures can play havoc with models especially the paint and decals!! Perhaps others on here might have a fuller explanation of what has caused that particular problem. Maybe Tomick might have an insight into the cause?
Great result Dave and thanks for sharing your work, much appreciated!!

Cheers guys. Yes I had changed my halogen bulbs to l.e.ds so heat wouldnt be an issue. The model was sprayed with TS13 tamiya clear.Hopefully the display case will provide good protection.

Hello again Dave,
Aah!! Tamiya TS-13!! I would hazard a guess and say that the Tamiya TS-13 is the cause of the problem as it is a lacquer based clear coat and is well known for being very aggressive towards paint surfaces and in particular decals!! Unless sprayed in several very fine 'mist' coats to begin with and allowing each to dry before the next is applied, it can be quite damaging!! The mist coats create a sort of thin barrier but without enough aggression in the reduced amount of solvent to cause any damage BEFORE thicker, more aggressive coats are subsequently applied on top of the barrier layer. It is awful stuff unless used correctly, one of the worst Tamiya products ever in my opinion and I wouldn't use it!! Can I just ask, did you spray the model in one session or by using several mist coats first?
I believe that when DeAg posted up their PDF instructions on how to clear coat your model, they recommended the use of 'Mr Hobby' Clear Coat, which is an acrylic based product and harmless. I think also that Tomick has mentioned in the past, in response to others questions about which clear coat to use, that any 'Aqueous' (water-based) clear coat would be fine but to NOT use any lacquer types as the solvents in them would have adverse effects to the paint used on the model? I think it's a possibility that you have a reaction going on between the clear coat and the paint which is causing the crystallisation, though I hope I am wrong or at least if it was, that it has now stopped!!
Best regards,
Kev

Oh dear. Yes it was done in about 3 or 4 sessions. It isn't easy to notice but I hope it doesn't get worse kev. Fingers crossed.
