Hi All The build starts in earnest or slownest whatever takes your fancy. I will be using gloves all the time on this build to prevent oily hands syndrome The ears and drain tubes etc are added here and the making up of the first armour plate section Mr T recommends using a tooth pick to help line up the holes and this is my method although im sure you will have your own. I use 5 cocktail sticks and then remove the backing paper completely but replace it just below the holes then line up using the cocktail sticks [ see pics ] this method worked well for me. The helmet parts went together quite easily until it came to mounting the rim where I had some fit problems, check the edges of the upper casting as one of the flutes was to long and needed filing back, also I filed back the front and rear lugs to improve the fit. Im quite happy with it now one other word of warning treat all the parts very gently as they will chip very very easily. The breast plate parts went together without any problems. Now for the lacings, this is something you will either love or hate but will be made easyer if the laces are prepared correctly to aid the threading. One thing I will mention is that the look of the lacings is very important, so getting them right is very important I may start mine again as im not happy with the results so far regards Andy arpurchase attached the following image(s): Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Hi All The first compleat panel of lacing is now done. the only problems I really had here were the laces have some stretch in them so carefull positioning is a must so they hang in the correct position although in the 'tips' it says that 2/3mm up or down is permisable and getting the laces to go mountain style or valley style can at times be frustrating. I have a feeling as we do more of this lacing the results will improve and maybe some relacing will be in order anyways heres the 1st results regards Andy arpurchase attached the following image(s): Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

She looks really good Andy, didn't think lacing would be such a complex task but see how a great deal of care is needed to get it to look just right.... Well done, look forward to seeing more.... Regards Alan

Hi Alan The main problem is getting the correct fold in the laces as they exit a plate these should all be mountain folds and not the reverse which is a valley fold, the best way to explain this is think of the letter V and turn it upside down and think of it as the cross section of the lace exiting the armour plate front hole this is a mountain fold and as normal would be a valley fold exiting the plate. Also there is a fair amount of strech in the ribbons which also has to be taken into consideration to get the plates hanging at the correct spacings, thanks for looking in and your comments regards Andy Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

You're not wrong there Andy. I found that despite carefully ensuring that the folds were correct as I started the threading, they would flip and invert themselves as the last few millimetres were being pulled through. I also found that the Laces would not stand a lot of tugging backward and forward before starting to show some degree of fraying. An interesting learning curve on this one and another 10 plates to perfect our technique on.

Hello Andy,
A very impressive result with your first panel, and in following the various diaries I can appreciate the difficulty in getting it all to hang right and to look the way it should? I think it may prove even more difficult for you to get successive panels to finish up all the same length, something which will need some careful attention when building them!!

Hi All Pack 2 arrived and I have cracked on with it. The visor was added to the helmet using the rivets provided then the enhancements to the neck guard was added, again some tiny  parts here so be carefull the carpet gremlin don't grab em. The 1st of the side plate armour has had its attachment points added and the holding pin with retaining cord attached. Again it was a case of assembling the leatherette backs to the tasset plates and the enevitable laceing commenced, the main laces are in place just the gold to attach here. Hi Alan Your right it certainly is different, I found the second set of tasset's easyer than the 1st but I guess that's down to the learning curve of the 1st set. The gold braid is now added to the second set so I will attack them tomorrow so more pic's on the way. Hi All This months issue's are now all done, I have decided to keep pic's to a minimum as I feel some one is cherry picking the builds for his own ends, the first of the half side plates has been made up with the usual clamping and the attachment pins added ect.
