Hi Colin, Its magpie here. .lol... Iv'e Pinned and glued the decks down on the Surprise. I've just made a start on the planking now. Thick as a brick today, sorry mate I just wondered if you will find it easier to plank away from the main boat then add it back in after? I can see you have pinned and glues it down so ignore my last warble...its been a strange day today.....better go now as the nurse is calling...coming dear.

Here Is where I am upto at the moment on the deck planking. I also Tried out my way of Tre-nailing. I drill a 4mm hole and insert 0.25mm black fishing line into the hole with thin super glue.Then trim and sand. Hi, The Deck is now fully planked . Iv'e started to drill for the trenails now. Here is what I did in pictures. Hi again.
Here is my latest update. Iv'e completed the laying of the planks, and tre nailed the deck. Then used Antique oil on them. This is the result of all of that. Hope it looks fine and dandy. Hi All. Thank you for the Warm comments.
Just a quick question . I am at the planking the hull stage but... If I lay this plank out (in pic) I don't get smooth lines. The rib nearest the cam has been packed out. the worst is the last short rib which seems to sink inwards. Does yours (Surprise Builders) lay the same and would it be worthy of sanding and packing out the ribs to get the shape.

hi magpie,I think you know what to do? the link you put up earlier of the other surprise build, shows that packing was required,so I won't teach grandmother to suck eggs lol.those pictures showed that the surprise kit has some flaws,so be prepared for more bits either missing or replaced with something else. Hi Magpie,
Just wondering, I noticed you described how you stained the edges of the strips - is this so it looks a little darker between each plank when laid in to fit?

Tom Hi Tom.
All I did was get Kitchen Tissue soak a little of the stain onto it the ran it down the edge of the strips getting little on the face also once the tissue has dried a little smudge a little on the face again. Once dry give it a light rub the antique oil it. Leave to dry over night then you can use black marker on the edges to give the effect of the Caulking. The stain does give the effect you mentioned also the effect of different shades of the same wood.
Here in my pictures I have filled the front with Balsa and filed and smoothed it out. Then with planks (not the correct ones these are soft bendy planks) I test fitted it out to see how it all lay before getting the real planks going.
