Right, ready for the planking on the lower decks... The strips are very thin so it too some time to get them right. I have left space on each side of the stripd to be able to cut and get it 100% perfect before varnishing... Current Build: HMS SOTS HMS Victory HMS Surprise

Looks a nice kit, I will certainly drop by now and again to see how its going. One thing though, do you think you could insert your photos instead of attaching them - it makes it so much easier to follow when the images show in the post. Cheers Steve

CHeers Cuan all you have to do is follow these steps, have the pics on your computer, click on post a reply, tick the attach button, click post, and a box will pop up,click on select a file,go to pictures(where your pic is)find the pic you want and go to edit, then resize button, then click on pixels, change that setting to 800x600, save, then click open, that takes you back to your open page, select upload, click on "back" and bingo you should have pic on page, any text required, you should do first, then load pics. k. Hi guys, some further photos on progress. First pic: This is a look at the middle deck with the planking and the cut outs for the stairs. 2nd/3rd pic: Top view of the back of the ship 4th pic: Added the upper deck, all the stairs and edgings done on the middle deck and the ammunition crates. The crates were interesting because I had to make the holes with a 3mm drillbit. This was my first attempt, but I don't thin it came out too bad... 5th/6th pic: Side view of the ship with upper deck on. Next is to plank the upper deck, hopefully without a mishap like the middle deck. cuandv attached the following image(s): Current Build: HMS SOTS HMS Victory HMS Surprise

Hi Guys, Have started the hull planking. It has been relatively easy up till the next few days where the plank twisting will have to start getting quite serious towards the back of the boat. I have found that wetting each piece of wood (Soaking it in the pool) for about 40 min and then using the plank bender to cut grooves in them while they are still wet has worked wonders. There are a few steps between each plank but nothing serious and I am sure that the sanding/filling procedure will certainly sort that out. cuandv attached the following image(s): Current Build: HMS SOTS HMS Victory HMS Surprise

I didn't want to pin the planks onto the hull, so I have used these board pins with big "Heads". The heads hold the planking in place while it dries, as you can see on the last 3 planks. I have wet them, used the plank bender and now I have just temporarily attached them to the hull so that they can dry in the shape of the hull. This will make it so much easier to glue on to the hull. Current Build: HMS SOTS HMS Victory HMS Surprise

Planking the hull has been extreme challenge for me! As a first time builder, I have struggled with the line of the planks. Although the pictures look gastly in the front and the back of the ship, the gaps will not be there anymore as I would need to cut the groove for the front piece of the ship to fit on (as well as the back). What I have found is the very slight gaps between the planks, especially on the bends of the hull. I have also found that filling them with the wood dust from sanding to taper the planks, has also helped a lot. I have been a bit off course with the alignment of the planks as well but I am hoping that the filling/sanding of the planks will sort a lot of the "issues" out. Anyone got any ideas or thoughts?? Hi cuandv. From what I can see there's nothing that a good sanding down won't take care of. Judging by the thickness of the planks I take it she's single planked? Looks like the same thick planks I had on my Constructo "Grimsby" was it Sapele wood or something? The interior is looking very good, to do those shot racks with a drill bit is pretty skilful! I don't know if you have cheap shops over there, they are called Pound Shops or Poundstretcher over here, if you do, have a look in the tools section you might be able to find a very cheap little set of diamond dust cutters. The set I have in front of me was just a pound and has ten cutters in a little plastic box, two of them have ball heads which are perfect for making the little half round depressions in the shot racks. Larger sets of these are made by a company called JAK, only a few pounds and up to twenty or so cutters and more. One trick I used on the Grimsby when I was filling in the last parts of the bow was to use shorter lengths of plank to go from the bow back to the 3rd or 4th rib where the curve in the hull straightens out, it was easier to bend a shorter piece which was then cut to the middle of the rib and the next plank carried on from there. If you alternate from 3rd to 4th it doesn't spoil the effect of the planking. Keep up the good work M8 Best Wishes Robin First wooden ship: The Grimsby 12 Gun 'Frigate' by Constructo Second: Bounty DelPrado Part Works Third: HMS Victory DelPrado Part Works 1/100 scale Diorama of the Battle of the Brandywine from the American Revolutionary War Diorama of the Battle of New Falkland (unfinished sci-fi), Great War Centenary Diorama of the Messines Ridge Assault Index for the Victory diary is on page 1
