Well here goes my attempt at building this mighty ship. As the title says this is my first ever wooden ship build and after reading many tips and tricks on this forum i finally made a start after recieving issue 6. I went straight into the build with the launch, built the jig as per instructions, then left to dry for 24 hours. Then came the planking . Shaped the jig with sand paper to achieve contours on the ribs and laid the first planks This is when i came to a pause and started to read the forum for help. Luckily i found plenty of info regarding planking and went ahead with my attempt at the matter in hand and ended up with this, very happy with my result As you can see, i'm going with the painted finish and this is now primed for and smoothed. Now awaiting next parts before continuing on with the launch....... In the mean time i made a start on the cannon. Inspiration for this came from reading with great interest Capt's Brushwork/Painting thread. Still to fit carriage wheels and fine detail which will include greenstuff modeling (Hoping to get this finished over the weekend) Also made a start on the carronade and the anchor and work on these will take place over this weekend and then i will update my diary. That is the progress i've made so far.... Until next time, enjoy Kas (Karl)

Sound as the proverbial pound there Kas. Very neat work there with the rubbing strips and a nice smooth bit of paintwork - all very clean. Schnellboots on back burner

CARRONADEJust a quick update as to where i am. Managed to get the carronade completed to a finished item i'm happy with, just need to add the tackle blocks to the rear eyes which i have not glued in position. Bought some 3mm tackle blocks from cornwall models to replace the kit blocks as in my opinion these are to big a scale to be convincing. Reworked the barrel fixing using Greenstuff putty(another tip from the capt) and also add the additional ring. GS also helped with the carriage wheels and the mid angled eye of the sliding gun carriage. The base plate has aslo had the sliding slot cut out using the drill, cut and micro file method. Last job was to paint using Capt Stedders method shown in the brushwork thread which is a task on its own but well worth the effort. If only i could do it justice like the Capt can. ANCHORCompleted the anchor also this weekend. Pretty much standard build as per mag apart from enlarging the brass ring using some brass rod from cornwall models. Added the puddening using black thread the added the siezings using a white thread, not perfect but will do. May come back to this at a later date as i used a cotton thread which is quiit fluffy even after going through diluted pva. Macro shows the slightest hair . Still got some work to do on the 12lb cannon but will post this up when finished. Bit of luck the postie will leave me a nice parcel tomorrow, then i can make a start on the keel and get the launch up to speed...

*Sniff* It is really satisfying to see that you are trying out the techniques and methods I laid out in the brushworks thread and, to a very large degree, I am impressed by your efforts. The painting is smooth, and the attention to detail is high. I can't take any credit for your craftsmanship though - and, as all the other comments suggest, you are making a really nice job of things! I'm also relieved that you have followed the magazine instructions with regard to the positioning of the oar slots. Keep up the good work! Schnellboots on back burner

Thank you Capt, Tried to get the oar slots as close to mag as poss but as noted elsewhere, some precise measurements would have been helpful(actual size in mag is not the same actual size model in my hands )
