Issue 41 - Contains grating strips, cleats, door decoration and a basswood strip.

Reassemble and glue in place the side gallery framework. Then sand the framework flush and stain the areas indicated. Repeat on the opposite side of the model.

Take the side gallery panel 66a, stain the areas indicated, and also paint black the inside of the window frames (as this will be difficult to do later on once the brass mesh has been added).

Take two mesh sections, shape the ends at an angle, then glue them in place, (I used contact adhesive).

Glue the panel in place, then level the edges with the surrounding woodwork. Repeat the assembly and fitting process for the other side gallery panel.

Take the fret provided with issue 39, remove the parts as shown, then glue parts 75 and 76 in place.
When the glue has set, glue panel 77 central on the assembly and set aside to dry. Then glue and clamp panel 78 in place.

Sand the assembly flush, then glue it beneath the gallery panel as shown.

Remove three #79 parts from the fret, glue them into position beneath the side gallery, then repeat on the opposite side of the hull.

Carefully store the parts provided with this issue.

Issue 42 - Contains bowsprit beak coverings, basswood strips, belay pins and two figurines.

Add bamboo strip lengths beneath the side gallery panel on both sides of the hull.

Take the bow deck and bulkhead parts 68/69 provided in issue 40.

Level the hull planking around bow deck frames

Test-fit the bow deck on the bow framework. Then take the bowspit dowel (provided in issue 40) and silde it through through the bow deck hole.

Sand the edge of the bow deck to flush with the bow planking then glue the deck in place, but not the dowel.

If you have opted for a painted finish, stain the bow deck to match the sapele planking.

Take bulkhead parts 68 and 69. Round the undeside of part 68 so that when it is in place as shown, the bowsprit dowel can easily slide into place. Then glue part 68 and the upper part 69 in place.

Plank the bulkhead frame with bamboo strips, then fill any gaps and sand to shape, and smooth the top flush.

Place a bamboo strip along the lengt of the beak frames to check alignment, then smooth the tops at an angle so that the plank sits flat on top of each frame.

Paint the bulkhead and beak black.

Apply clear matt varnish to the bow deck and the unpainted sapele strips along the hull side.

Remove the bow grating framework parts from the fret. Then assemble and glue them together as shown. Ensure that the assemly lies flat.

Carefully store the remaing parts.

Issue 43 - Contains birch strips, dummy gun support beam extension strips, and the forward 3rd deck pieces.

Stain the beak platform assemble in the previous stage to match the sapele planking.

Take the grating strips and plan provided with issues 40/41.

Assemble the grating strips to form over sized sections ofthe beak platform cutouts as shown.
To prevent the gratings falling appart, you can paint them with diluted PVA to set them. When fully dry cut and sand each grating section to shape/size, then glue them in place.

Glue the beak platform onto the bow framework as shown. Then smooth the framework sides to follow the angle of the platform.

Take the platform side panels. Paint the inside of the large panels black and paint the inside of the small panels to match the red/burgundy of the gunport linings.

Glue the lower panels in place folowed by the upper panels, then sand the joint smooth and paint the outside of the panels black.

Take the 1x3mm wooden strips and cut strip lengths to line the top of the platform edge as shown, and glue them in place.

Carefully store the remaining parts.

Issue 44 - Contains the central and stern deck halves, grating strips and basswood strips.

Start by cutting the deck support beam strips from the ply fret.

Starting at the bow, measure then cut a deck support beam to suit the span of each of the rib frames at the lower level, then glue each beam into place. Use a pair of dividers to gauge the length of each beam span.

Take the birch strip lengths provided in Issue 43. Cut lengths to match the span of the existing dummy gun support beams, from the bow to just past the entry port opening as shown in step 6. There is no requirement to add strips aft of this point.
Glue each strip on top of the previous dummy gun strip, when the glue is dry, sand flush the top of any he strips that come above the deck support beams. Then paint black the outward facing surface of the dummy gun support strips just added.

Test fit then glue the forward deck halves in place, followed by the cetral deck halves, and then the aft deck halves.

Cut deck support columns from the remaining beam strip to fit beneath the central deck span in the positions shown. Glue the columns in position, then paint the interior of both deck openings black.

Use the 0.6x5x300mm basswood strips to plank the central span of the deck between the points indicated at step 16, cut the planks around the frames at the deck edge. Note - Issue 45 shows pencil lines drawn lengthwise along the join of the deck planks. You can if you wish, opt to caulk deck planks now before gluing them at this stage. The plank end joints are shown marked with a pencil line which falls in line with the protriuding hull frames.

This completes this stage, carefully store the remaining parts and material.

Issue 45 - Contains the forecastle & quarterdeck, deck support beams, vertical supports and horizontal supports.

If you have not already caulked the deck planking then do so now as per the instructions.

I opted to leave the sanding of the tops of the hull sides of the forecastle until the vertical support (part 92) was fitted at step 10. This then gives you the perfect angled height to sand down to.

Takem the forecastle and quarterdeck pieces, mark a centre line along the length, then mark a line across the hull as shown in step 6.

Note - There is part number error

Parts indicated in steps 7, 8, 9 & 10 as parts 88/89 are marked as 91/92 on the fret.

Parts indicated in step 15 as 91/92 are marked 88/89 on the fret.

Mark a second line using part 91 as the guide.

Take the vertical suuport (part 92), glue and fit the panel along the line just drawn. Ensure that it is set upright, then glue part 91 to 92 as shown.
Allow the glue to fully set, then sand the toips of the forecastle hull sides at an angle from the bow to meet the height of part 92, (the sanding should be level with with tops of the frames).

Place the forecastle deck in position to check the fit and that it is centred, but do not glue it yet.

Sit the quarterdeck in place, mark and cut the vertical edges of the hull at the front point of the quarterdeck as shown in step 13. Then draw a line across the deck at this point.

Assemble the 88/89 parts to form the horizontal support, then glue the support as shown in step 15. Replace the quarterdeck to check the central alignment, but do not glue it at this stage.

Cut and fit dummy gun support beams in the forecastle and aft of the quarterdeck area as shown in step 18, then paint black the area between as before.

Remove the deck support beams from the fret. Cut, glue and fit beams to fit the frames of forecastle area and also in the quarterdeck area towards the stern to include frame 27.

Glue the forecastle and quarterdeck in place and ensure that the central alignment is maintiained.
When the glue has fully set, you can sand flush the deck edges with the hull and paint the edges black.

This completes this stage of the build.

Future issues:
