Hi guys,

I need your help. I bought the McLaren MP4/7 (McLaren) for a friend. However, something is a bit off with the decals. The instructions state that the decals should be left in water for 10 seconds, before removing the backing and sticking it. But after 10 seconds, the backing doesn't want to come loose. So he has to leave it for a while longer. Eventually it becomes possible to remove the decals, but it is practically impossible to stick it. The paper is so brittle, that even a slight blow or touch perishes the decal completely. Is he doing something wrong, or did I buy him a rubbish model?

It does sound like the decals have been sitting for some time and tend to break up... when putting decals into water make sure it is warm water as this then tends to make the backing paper soak the water more quickly.

I'm guessing this MP4/7 is and older kit form years gone by?

Thanks for the replies, guys. Sorry,I see the link I posted is broken. Let me try again, this is the model in question: Link

Thanks for the warm water tip, Warthog. Will tell him to try it.

Regarding the replacement decals, how and where can I order some (preferably someone who ships internationally)? I bought the kit from a local hobby shop, and since it is an old kit, I doubt I will be able to get a replacement there.

There are a couple off suppliers and the main one is Hiroboy.com but they are out of stock.. I googled the decals but mainly coming up with 1/18 scale and not 1/20... EBay is the likely place you will find some
