BigGrin Hi readers, I resides from Cape Town, South Africa.

Its my first build. When the SOTS arrived in South Africa, I took the plunge into very deep waters.

I collected the first 12 issues before starting the actual build. Experience showed me that the show-how instruction in the magazines can cause future build problems and I want to avoid most of them. By reading the forum, I stumble upon great ideas for my model.

1st issue from CNA and joined Jacklin Enterprises Glare

Issue 1 I left the ancors and cannons for later
Issue 2
Issue 3
Issue 4
Issue 5

I made the keel holder and assembled the ribs using the "flat-bed and press"-method

(Issue 5)
To ease the fit of the ribs to the keel, I left the braces 10, 18, 24 for last.

Using a square and tri angle the ribs starts to fall into place. As I progress with the ribs, I pinned them parallel with extras planking from the Victory.

The deck plates needed tweaking for a perfect fit. Blink I used them dry-fit to help me with the correct alignment of the ribs to the keel. I found that I got the "Peanut in the Smartie box"!Crying with this issue

The Ribs had a wave fit when fitted dry. It took a lot of sanding to level out the ribs for the deck plates to lay flat on them. It also made that the plates did not had a clean line.Mad Thanks to the forum and you guys to help me rectify this in time.Flapper

I found that rib 13 has a manufacturing fault. Glare This made me re-enforcing all the ribs, using off cuts. While I was at it, I came convinced to do the semi-fill with Balsa wood in the bow section.

The bow I kept apart from the keel for this purpose.

Its important to measure with a vernier to make sure the ribs are perfect align and parallel to each other all over. A home made mini level; like in the magazine, is ideal for fitting the ribs.

The streamers is been replaced by Apple wood which I collected from a salvage from the Victory build.
BigGrin Its much more study than the supplied ones. No need to put extra support under the beams anymore..

I came across the idea of using pin needles for the wheels BigGrin
The pin head measures 1.45mm and ideal to scale.
OhMyGod Note that the wheels are bevelled. .

Your are welcome Alan. If you need translation or info, feel free to ask. On the above pic, I discovered the needle pin from wife's toolbox works beautiful for axle stoppers.

Net 'n voorstel.

No problem I think you will have more response and dialogue if most can understand what you are doing. Good job on your build, looking real good, by the way.
Something that might help, is to predrill the holes in bamboo to avoid splits and breaks. Soaking in hot water helps with the bending and shaping as well.
